However, excessive use can lead to the development or worsening of social anxiety. Social media can increase social anxiety through constant comparison, creating the illusion of a perfect life. This can lead to feelings of self-doubt and social anxiety. Despite its benefits, it is essential to be aware of its potential negative impact on social anxiety. By being aware of the constant comparison, fear of missing out, and increased self-awareness that social media can foster, individuals can navigate these platforms in a healthier, more balanced way. 73% and 84% of American teens and families own a smartphone, and 92% of them use the Internet daily. However, issues such as trauma and poverty run deeper. The report also shows that only 12% of teenagers use the Internet only once a day, highlighting the need for more comprehensive strategies to address these issues. The addictive nature of scrolling through timelines can lead to excessive screen time, negatively impacting mental health. It is crucial for individuals with social anxiety to be mindful of their social media usage, set boundaries, and prioritize self-care to mitigate the potential negative impact of timeline issues on their well-being.
