. Reintegrating offenders into society may be in the best interests of society because it allows offenders to return to society more smoothly. Reintegration is a goal of corrections that focuses on preparing the offender for a return to society free of criminal activities, according to the textbook. Some offenders are genuinely concerned about how they will function in society after being imprisoned for several years. Because they are unfamiliar with how society works, being imprisoned for a long period of time may have a psychological influence on an individual's ability to obtain work. Offenders who are reintegrated can participate in activities that will aid them once they are released from prison, such as rehab or school. Reintegrating offenders also lowers the ratio of convicts, saving money for individuals by lowering their tax burden. Offenders are frequently forced back into their former criminal lifestyle if they are not reintegrated. When newly released inmates are pushed back into society without assistance, they may adopt the same mindset as when they were incarcerated. Inmates frequently develop a belief that they are entitled to everything (Evert, 2016). That is plainly not how society functions. This could be the main reason why ex-offenders return to criminal activity such as drug dealing, substance abuse, and other crimes. Individuals who will not do harm to society must be carefully identified and reintegrated into society. References: Evert, B. (2016). The 4 inmate personality types. Corrections One.
