Amber Worlton SOC 383 Exploring Teen Risk Taking 1/18/2021 Four Kids, Four Crimes Group Activity As a group, discuss and give a creative, critical, and specific response to the following questions. You will meet in Zoom, record the session, and submit the link to your group’s recording. There is an attached Word document for you to record the group's responses and take notes during the activity. Download the document and insert your group's answers. When you have finished the activity and recorded all your group's responses, click open below to submit the document. Each member of the group submits their own copy of the group document. 1. Please go to the following website: Four Kids, Four Crimes Each group member should pick one of the profiles (Shawn, Marquese, Jose, or Manny) and answer the following questions: Which of the correlates of delinquency listed in your textbook (pgs. 43-50) apply to this juvenile offender? Which do you think was most influential in their delinquent behavior? - Shawn shows a few correlates of delinquency. He shows social class, rage, gender, age of onset and racial bias. I feel as those rage was the most influential in his delinquent behavior as it is a leading factor in most issues. Rage is extremely hard to control and think rationally while experiencing it. 2. As a group, compare the profiles you read. What factors do they have in common? How do their cases differ?
All juveniles compared in race, gender, population makeup, social class, no support systems. All juveniles did not have same sentencing guidelines, experienced dysfunction and learning abilities, and racial bias. 3. Which of these young men do you think would be most likely to become a chronic offender? Back up your decision with the information on chronic offending from your textbook (pgs. 50-53). - In all of the cases, I think Manny would be the most likely to become a chronic offender. He was being housed for 9 years in a state facility, which is a long time. Because of his long tome in a state facility, I feel as though he has adjusted to that lifestyle and was under the influence of those around him. After being in that setting for so long, it can be shocking and scary to offenders when they can go back into the world. This change can be overwhelming and cause him to revert back to the ways he knows.
