The book The Great Commission to Worship by David Wheeler and Dave
Whaley tells the reader that the art of evangelism is essential for our faith and that it not
only needed for every believer but it is easy to do. In a how to manuel of how was share
faith and why we can share our faith at any moment both Wheeler and Whaley do a great
job of inspiring the reader with personal stories, biblical stories as well as inpostaion for
the reader to create their opportunities to share faith. The book stars out painting a picture
of our Job as believers, then explaining what evangelism is and then finishing out with
telling us how we can share out faith. The book provides not only ABC to evangelism but
even provided reason why we might not and even a
What an encouraging book! As someone who doesn't enjoy reading that much, I
was very impressed with the practicality and the easy read that this was. The authors did
a great job of putting together a resource for new believers and mature believers. This
book did a great job of breaking down how to share the Gospel and why we share the
gospel. I loved how Wheeler and Whaley reminded us in Chapter 3 of what it means to
be obedient and follow through with the call of the Gospel. Another aspect that I
appreciated about the book was the statistics that were shared, this provided a good
backbone for the points that Whaley and Wheeler. What made Everyday Evangelism
different from other books I have read was the depth and amount of scripture that was
shared. My favorite chapter through this book was Chapter 13 - “ Being a missionary not
a mission field” the chapter started out by explaining how the 1st century church started
and the impact they have had on the rest of the world. Without these missionaries there
would be no modern day church. I appreciated how Whaley reminded us all that a baton
was passed from the disciples to the early church and throughout the generations was
passed to us. Now it is on us to do the same! This book overall was great, from the
practicality to the scripture this was a book I would absolutely recommend to all. .

As I said above, this book was great! It really is hard to pick apart sections in this
book that I didn't love, however for the assignment, some of the feedback i would give
would be that I think the book was pretty redundant. I would suggest that most chapters
could have been cut in half and some chapters even taken out. While it was useful, I
found myself multiple times asking if I had read something like this before. Again I
appreciate the sentiment of how the book was written as a resource but I tent to believe
that shorter is always better. As I look back on the chapters I think there are four chapters
that could have been taken out. Not because they are bad but because I think they could
have fit better in other chapters. At times it felt like we started a new thought rather than
completing the original thought. Overall again it was great and these notes are only based
off of what I had to say because of the assignment .

“The challenge is that most church leaders are unwilling to admit that evangelism
should be the main priority of the body.” 1
I like this quote because it challenges the mindset that I believe most of us in the
western world have of consumerism christianity. The power that comes from this
line is that our job is to live out the command of Jesus not sit around.
●
“In the Old Testament, God chooses to dwell in the tabernacle and temple. In the
New Testament, He chooses to dwell in the hearts of man and woman. He is God
in us” 2
What a powerful word. The beauty that God doesn't have to use us but he does! If
we know God wants to use us, why would we not have open hands and an open
life to be used by him.

“Great Commission worship is formational” 3
One can not be a committed Chrsit follower without understand and accepting the
call to take the gospel to all of the nation. Jesus’s words in Matthew 28 are
formatinal and a part of our core doctrine of our faith.
●
“We are shaped by doctrine. Doctrine has everything to do with what we
believe”4
These words can not be more true. What we believe to be true about God says
everything about us. This is why going to a bible believing Church is so
important. It is needed, so that our lives can be set on a solid foundation. Church
fathers for generations have lived off of christian orthodoxy
●
“Worship is not determined by our faithfulness to the law. Our worship is
evidenced or confirmed by our love for God.” 5
We can thank God that we do not have a works based theology. This walk we
have with Christ is set on what he has done. However believers should have a
response to what he has done and that response is worship.
●
“Relational worship is based on friendship, affinity, and a bond with God.” 6
Most have grown up in a church that talks about God as if he is a principle or a
dictator, when we mess up he is waving his finger at us. That could not be further
from the truth. He is our friend, our father AND God. We should see him as
relational.
●
“Devotion to one another and honoring others above ourselves is so contrary to
our twenty-first-century postmodern, humanistic, secularized culture and concepts
of living” 7

To love God is to Love people. We can not love his him or love his people if we
are not around them often. To love God and to walk with him is to live in
community. The early church lived this way and model a life and a way of church
that should leave everyone in this postmodern world with the question of … what
are we doing.
●
“Don’t confuse the terms mission-minded and missional. The first refers more to
an attitude of caring about missions, particularly overseas. Missional means
actually doing a mission right where you are. Missional means adopting the
posture of a missionary, learning and adapting to the culture around you while
remaining biblically sound. Think of it this way: missional means being a
missionary without ever leaving your zip code.” 8
Everyone is a missionary. The title just means you are living out or you are
actively working to share the Gospel. Everyone should be mission minded. Not
everyone has to be a overseas missionary.
●
“Evangelism is often presented as a watered down suggestion rather than a
command.” 9

What could be more convincing that. The quote says it all. What could be more
impactful that command from God. What could be more disrespectful than to
disobey a command from God.
●
“Spiritual maturity that multiplies does not occur by accident” 10
I believe God is raising up a generation of followers not church but of His Way.
To follow Jesus is to follow his word and commit EVERYTHING to him. This
takes someone or a group of people teaching the younger generation how to do
this. This will not happen on accident.
●
“Other attributes of a true disciple should include self-denial (Matt 16:2; Mark
8:34); renunciation (Mark 10:21, 28); sacrifice (Luke 9:59, 61; 14:33);
steadfastness (John 8:31; 12:26); fruitfulness (John 15:8); and love (John 13:35).”
11
If following Jesus doesn't look like this quote above then we are not doing it right.
The scriptures are clear. We are not to use the bible as a suggestion. It is authority.
●
“Worship of God unifies” 12
The early church was unified not because of the city they were born in but
because of the way they saw Jesus. When we gather with believers we are unified.
This is the power of a church that all worshiped the same God. Unity is a
beautiful thing.

1.
I am called to share
To live a life as a Jesus Follower I can not play around. God is too
powerful and has done too much for me to not follow his Call.
2.
I need to disciple as many people as possible.
Preaching messages are great and there is a time for that. However I need
to have several men around me that I am pouring myself out to. We all
benefit from someone sharing Jesus to us. Now its my turn.
3.
God is faithful, now we must be.
Not that God needs me but he chose me. I want to live a life that is committed to
saying thank you for who he is and what he has done. I want to live and die telling
that story. His faithfulness should lead me to be faithful to him.
4. Learn to say thank you daily
God gave us the greatest story ever. That is worth us saying thank you and telling
it to the world. When I can learn to have a viewpoint of awe and wonder for what
Jesus did for me then I can come into a place of submission to his will for my life.
