Summary of Book:
Family to Family, Families Making a Difference
, is a book that helps families evangelize to the lost. The book focuses on how the family can be an effective unit in sharing the Gospel. Moreover, it also offers practical suggestions for family to become healthy servers of the Living God. The authors stated: “That is what this book is all about: raising your family to follow Christ.
1
They further state: “The bottom line is sharing the way of salvation through Jesus Christ.
That is what this book is all about: Raising you family to follow Christ.”
2
This thinking causes one to understand that the focus of every Christian family should be one that is focused on Jesus.
Strengths:
This book has many strengths throughout the pages. What I like the most is how it focuses on the
family and how to continually grow in their faith. With the practical information given through the book can help any family grow.as evangelist. When reading this book, it also offers a guide on how to plan to spend time as a family to become healthy. Moreover, the fact that family is the focus of this book one can understand how the book flows.
Another strength of the book is that it can be read out of order. By this you can read chapter 2 and skip to chapter 6 and still have the consistency of knowing that you are going to be able to follow along. The ease of reading this book made this an enjoyable read. Weakness:

As I read the pages of Family to Family, I could not find many weaknesses and the reason being is that I agreed with what the authors were saying throughout the book. I was able to see my family on each of the pages and the stories that were shared. I also found that the book gave me suggestions to build a stronger family. I also found that the suggestions are things that I have implemented in my family before I read this book.
Quotes:
As I read Family to Family, several quotes stood out to me, and I find them to be very important and have impacted me. I will also explain the reason why these quotes and statements are important to me.
Chapter One:
Healthy families are made up of individuals who have discovered their identity and purpose in Christ, are growing to their maximum potential in Him, and are sowing seeds that benefit others.
3
The importance of this statement shows me that my family’s focus should be to find our purpose in Jesus.
Chapter Two:
A family mission statement is a way for a healthy family to make Christ’s priorities its priorities.
4
When looking at this statement I thought that this make sense. All organizations have a mission statement, and the family should as well because they need to know where they are headed.
Chapter Three:
3
Ibid, 13.
4
Ibid, 25.
Healthy families pass the baton of faith in Christ on to the next generation. It is not the church’s sole responsibility- or anyone else’s- to win your child to Christ and mentor them spiritually; it is
yours.
5
As a parent I agree with this statement because I have seen so many families look to others to do what they should be doing.
As a parent, you gently but directly explore these issues with the child. Do not feel rushed! This does not have to be resolved the first time the child mentions it, and the child must not be pressured or made to feel they are taking a test at school.
6
I have falling into the trap of trying to rush my sons to give their life to Christ, however, when I think about my conversion I was not rushed therefore, I should not rush my children.
Chapter Four:
Healthy families spend quantity and quality time around God’s purposes. If we truly want our children to accept the Gospel, then our commitment to Christ must spill over to those around us who do not know Christ.
7
As a parent I have to remind myself that I must spend time and showing my children to do God’s work.
Ministry evangelism was a priority to Jesus. It should be a priority in any family that wants to live the Great Commission.
8
Living out the Great Commission should be the priority of every family more so for the parents.
Chapter Five:
5
Ibid, 43.
6
Ibid, 44.
7
Ibid, 70.
8
Ibid, 70.
If you are going to be a healthy, on-mission family, you will want to show those to whom you minister a place where they can fellowship with Christians and mature in Christ- that is the Church.
9
This is important because we should always be in fellowship with other believers. Chapter Six:
If you are going to be a healthy family, it is important that you prepare yourself to effectively communicate how a person receive Jesus Christ as Savior.
10
As a family we must communicate the truths of our faith and we must be able to do it in a clear and concise manner.
Man has the choice. The consequences of lostness are simple yet profound: 1. Wasted existence of this present life., 2. Eternal separation from God in hell.
11
This is a sad yet true statement for those who do not give their life to Christ. I cry thinking that someone refused to accept Christ because of the simple act of giving their life to Him.
Following Christ means sharing the Gospel with those who do not know Him.
12
This statement is
a mandate of every believer. We are to share the Gospel weather we want to do it or not. Lessons Learned:

What I learned from Family to Family, is not to become a hurried father. I need to spend more time with my family and let my children see me working at evangelism. I also learned that it is a process to get one’s family to become healthy and it begins with me as a parent. If I want my family to be healthy Christian family, I must be the example of a healthy Christian man.
I learned that it is my responsibility to pass my faith on to my children’s children and so on. My legacy should be that I raised my family to admire Jesus and not the world. The legacy that I want to leave is one made on the fact that Jesus lived, died and rose again to save our family. I want my family to continue pressing in the faith.
Another lesson that I learned from the book was that my priority should be and remain the sharing the Gospel. Doing this will show my family the importance of doing the work. I feel that there should be no excuse for not sharing with my family how to do what God called us to do.
The final thing that I learned was to come up with a mission statement for my family. I never thought that having a mission plan was necessary. However, when I think of how businesses have mission statement so should a family. A mission statement gives a clear direction of where the family is focused on. This thought opened my eyes and I will now work on implementing a mission statement that is focused on Jesus.
