Please use this template for Week 02 Assignment: Prayer and Revelation
A. Write a 100–200 word summary of what you learned from the preparation videos.
From watching the preparation videos, I learned that it is important to see other people's
point of views, but it is better and a greater blessing to be able to go to the scriptures and find the answers that we need. Or even just read something that we need to hear and interpret it in the way that it was meant in the scriptures. I learned that we might not be able to do that if we aren’t able to understand what we are reading in the scriptures and being genuine and intentional while reading. If we are genuine and intentional while
reading, we will get a deeper understanding and have an overall better experience while
reading. B. Complete the Scriptures table with your insights on effective prayer.
1 Nephi 16:21–23
Example: Invest yourself in the solution.
1 Nephi 16:28
Example: Guidance comes according to our willingness to follow it.
1 Nephi 17:7
Example: You may have to pay a price for the answer you want—climb a mountain first
1 Nephi 18:1–
3
How you communicate should reflect who you are as a child of God. 2 Nephi 32:1–
9
We need to pray more meaningfully. A feast means to savor, not just to taste. By studying and “savoring” the scriptures we will be able to pray more meaningfully. Enos 1:1–17
Praying “mightily” will help more in the ways that you need specifically, even if you might not realize it at the time. Alma 33:1–11
Having faith in Him will bring more blessing to those of those who read the scriptures and pray in faith. Alma 34:26–
27
Even when we are not physically or intentionally saying a prayer, we must always have a prayer in our hearts. 3 Nephi 13:7
If you pray for something and you don’t get the answer, don't keep repeating the same prayer and asking for the same thing. Maybe prayer
for a way to better hear the answer or pray for patience for the answer to that certain prayer. 3 Nephi 18:20
If you pray in His name and believe, you will receive. 3 Nephi 19:24
If you think about what you pray about and intentionally pray about it you will be filled with desire and continue to know when you need to pray.
3 Nephi 27:29
If you pray with good intentions then you will receive the answers you are looking for. Ether 2:14–25
You can pray for yourself and others for forgiveness, but you have to continue to try to do your best to not sin because if you continue to sin for your whole life you can be cut off from the presence of the Lord. C. Complete
the Prayer table on the differences between the Zoramite prayer and Alma’s prayer. Zoramites Prayer
Alma's Prayer
First thing learned:
Some people have “empty” prayers and pray without being intentional or pray for reasons that are kind of selfish. Second thing learned.
When people's prayers are full of emotion, meaning, and are more selfless, they will receive the answer that they need and more blessings. D. Include
both of your responses to two different slides from the Prayer and Revelation PowerPoint. 1.
Choose
one slide with a question(s) and respond to it with at least three sentences. The question that I chose to answer is “How do we recognize promptings of the Spirit?” The best way to recognize promptings is through prayer. By praying you can ask for answers to any questions you have, even praying about how you can better recognize promptings. After praying, the Lord will answer us with clear thoughts or through the scriptures and messages. 2.
Share
your thoughts about your favorite slide with a quote. Please write at
least three sentences. My favorite slide was slide 7. This was my favorite slide because it said that he was optimistic about the future, but he was also not naive about the future. The slide says “In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting,
and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.” I liked this slide because I like to try to think optimistically about the future, but I also know that there are going to be more challenges to come and that I will need to constantly be influenced by the Holy Ghost to survive spiritually.
