W03 Assignment: The Virtue of the Word of God A. Share a one-sentence description of the key teaching you take from each one. Scripture to Read Your Insight from the Scripture 1 Nephi 13:23 That the primary difference between the two records was that the Bible did not contain as many “prophecies of the holy prophets” 1 Nephi 13:39–40 That all men must come unto him, or they cannot be saved. 1 Nephi 15:24 Whoso would hearken unto the word of God, and would hold fast unto it, they would never perish ; neither could the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary overpower them unto blindness, to lead them away to destruction. Mosiah 1:5–7 That we might read and understand of his mysteries, and have his commandments always before our eyes. Alma 16:16-17 And there was no inequality among them; That they might not be hardened against the word, that they might not be unbelieving. Alma 31:5 It had had a more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else, which had happened unto them. Helaman 3:29 Which shall divide asunder all the cunning and the snares and the wiles of the devil, and lead the man of Christ in a straight and narrow course across that everlasting gulf of misery which is prepared to engulf the wicked. Helaman 15:7–9 And this because of their faith in Christ. 3 Nephi 29:1–3 Need not imagine in your hearts that the words which have been spoken are
vain. B. Rank them from what you feel is most important to the least important if you want to have a quality scripture study experience. Rank Order Principle related to/aspect of Scripture Study 5 Invest time 7 Ponder 6 Ask questions 8 Consult commentaries 3 Mark the scriptures 4 Write about insights 9 Teach what you learn 11 Sit up 2 Silence distractions 10 Have a set time 1 Start with prayer C. 100-200 word summary of what you learned from the four videos From watching the videos I learned that it is important to realize what potential we all have and what privileges our potential brings us. If I was that man on the ship I probably would’ve cried after finding out that everything was included with the price of the ticket and I would’ve been so upset with myself. I think that that can happen if we don’t realize our potential and not know the privileges we have. I learned that in order to actually grasp what the scriptures say we have to do more than just casually read them, but we have to read them intentionally with an open heart and mind. I learned that so much work was put into the creation and publication of the scriptures and Bible and that it is very important and such a blessing to have such books readily available to us all the time.
