Read 1 Nephi 17 and answer the following questions:
a.
This chapter represents a pivotal point where God moves forward with His promise to deliver Lehi and his family to the Promised Land. What do versus 2-3 teach about the idea that while God is working to give us specific blessings, he is also helping us become more like him? If we follow the commandments and do as
He asks, we will receive blessings. b.
As you read versus 4-6, consider the difference between waiting for the day promises will be fulfilled and arriving at the moment when they begin to be fulfilled. How is our faith tested in both experiences? Our faith is tested because while waiting, we have to be patient and have faith that He will fulfill His promises. Our faith is tested at the moment when they begin to be fulfilled because His promises might be overwhelming, but we have to be faithful and trust
in Him and His promises. c.
Versus 7-11 illustrate how God makes us partners in obtaining our gifts from Him. How have you seen Him call you to a mountain, instruct you in doing something you must do, and then being left to follow through on His new and difficult guidance? Why are you grateful that he stretches and involves you in giving you His gifts? I can’t think of anything that has previously happened, but right now I have a very strong feeling that I need to move out and follow what I want to do, which is move to a different country. I am terrified to do it and don’t even know where to start, but I can’t help but feel as though it is what I need to

do. I know that if I do so, I will gain so many new opportunities and He will continue to bless me and for this, I am grateful that he stretches me and pushes me
in the directions that I need to go in. d.
Versus 13-14 teaches two important outcomes that will be ours when God delivers on His promises to us. What are the outcomes? The outcomes are that we will gain knowledge and truth with no doubts and that we will know all right from
wrong. e.
Versus 17-20 show us we do not only need to believe in God’s ability to deliver on His promises, but that we will also be tested as to whether we can exercise faith in His servants as they play their role in helping us obtain God’s gifts. How can you prepare yourself to follow the prophet or another leader when they follow
God’s guidance? I can put more time into my studies and try to get a deeper understanding of the readings and of the words that the prophet or other leaders are saying. I can also pray to be able to understand everything and get what I personally need out of the readings and words of the prophet and other leaders. f.
As you read versus 21-32 consider how challenging it is to keep our eyes on the eternal prize rather than settling for temporary distractions. How do you remember your opportunities so you can maintain the faith needed to remain faithful and not murmur? A way that I remember my opportunities is to think about my family. When I think about them I think about how I want to be able to be with them forever and that helps me remain faithful. Something else that helps me remember to stay faithful is that I know He has a plan for me and that I just need to trust it.

What do versus 33-47 teach is the essential thing we must do if we are to receive God’s choice blessings in our lives? We have to follow His teachings and do whatever we can do to follow His path. We also have to open our hearts in order to do this. h.
Versus 48-55 illustrate the choice we have to murmur and doubt or believe and support. How do you refuse to murmur and choose to believe? I refuse to murmur by knowing the negative effects of social media and the things that I see online. I know that there are so many temptations and I know that I just have to watch carefully for them. I choose to believe by knowing and believing in the blessings that He has promised.

Read 1 Nephi 20:1-7 and answer the following questions:
a.
What has God done in your life that has caused you to know of His existence and power? A few years ago my brother had an accident at the skatepark and he cracked open His skull. All of the doctors and specialists that saw him said he was
very lucky to be alive. This has caused me to know of His power and Existence because I know that He had something or everything to do with my brother being fine and that his injuries weren’t as serious as they should've been. b.
According to these verses, why does God tell us things He will do long before He does them? He tells us before He does them so that we have time to prepare. 3.
Read 1 Nephi 21:13-16, and answer the following questions:
a.
How do you suppose God feels when we feel neglected or forgotten? I feel like He knows that most, if not all of us feel as though we are neglected sometimes so I feel like He is just patient with us and does all He can to send the right things

and people into our lives when we need it in order to lead us back to Him and remind us of His presence in our lives at all times. b.
Restate verse 15 in your own powerful words. How can a mother forget her own child, just like a mother, He will not forget us. c.
How does it make you feel to know that the Savior has retained the marks of His crucifixion as a reminder of His promises to you? I like how the marks are a good reminder and it makes me feel loved and appreciated.
d.
What does the statement “thy walls are continually before me” mean to you? What I think when I read this is that He gives us challenges/walls that He knows he will gain something from and that He is always there with us to help us overcome those challenges/walls. 4.
Read 2 Nephi 10 and answer the following question:
a.
A simple definition of a religious covenant is that it is a two-way promise between God and man. As you read verse 1-7 what do you see as the reason why God does not appear to be keeping His covenant to His people? I think it is because they are not keeping their covenants and since they are a two-way promise, they have to keep theirs in order for them to work properly. If they were keeping their covenants they would know that He was keeping His as well. b.
As you read versus 17-35 note the firm promise by God that He will fulfill the promise that He has made. How can you exercise more faith in God’s determined commitment to keep His promises? What specific things do these verses suggest we can do to increase our faith in God’s promises? I can exercise more faith by reading the scriptures and praying for guidance on how to be as committed as I
6
can. We have to set aside our sins and open our hearts for them to soften and reconcile ourselves to His will. 5.
Read 2 Nephi 19:16-21 and answer the following questions:
a.
What is the reason the anger of the Lord is kindled against His people and His promises are being withheld? Even though He is always there for all of us and will help us when we need, they are not following Him so His promises are being withheld. b.
Why does the Lord say twice in these short verses that, “his hand is stretched out still?” I think it says it twice because His hand will always be stretched out towards us for us to grab and receive help from Him. I think it is mentioned twice as a reminder that He will always be there for us and that He will never leave us behind. 6.
Read 2 Nephi 29: 1-2, 5, 9, 14 and answer the following questions:
a.
As God affirms the reality and validity of His promises in these verses, why do you feel it is so hard for us to wait for Him to complete His work? I think that it gets harder for us to wait for Him to complete His work because I think that these days the world has shown us that we don’t have to wait very long for things. Like ordering food or things online, we get it all within a few minutes or days so I think that we have just become inpatient. b.
How can we come to know God’s promises and be focused on them as He is? By making sure we follow His teachings and remember all of His sacrifices and His covenants. 7.

In spite of God’s omniscience and our ignorance, we sometimes approach Him in prayer and seek to tell Him how things should be done. How can you remember His wisdom and your limitations so you are able to more patiently wait as He fulfills His promises in the days to come? A way that I remember His wisdom is by remembering that He has a path for all of us and that He always knows How and what we are doing and what we need. When I am feeling down or bad or like everything is crappy I remember that everything happens for a reason and try to look at the lesson and the experience and knowledge that I have been able to gain from it.
