Rising Hope: Exploring the Resurrection of Jesus Christ Paula Jones 23FA BIBL 255 13 December 2023
Paula Jones Narrative Passage 1 Narrative Passage-Introduction It is well known that Jesus is called Emmanuel, meaning "God with us" in Hebrew. Jesus continues to demonstrate that he is worthy of his name in the 28th chapter of Matthew. The promise that Jesus made is kept, and he still finds a way to come back to those whom he loved the most. He leaves them with hope and a purpose known as the Great Commission. Jesus's last instructions demonstrate that He not only loves us but also desires salvation for all people and that we are the ones who are responsible for bringing about this salvation. The only Son of God chooses to send us into the world, and Jesus, in turn, decides to send us out into the world to carry on His ministry. Nobody can see the Kingdom of God or the Father without first going through Jesus and being baptized in the name of the triune God, which consists of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The ministry of Jesus saves, and no one can see the Father apart from Him.
Paula Jones Narrative Passage 2 Narrative Passage-Background of the Key Passage Matthew 28:18-20 is often referred to as the Great Commission. In this passage, Jesus instructs his disciples to go and make disciples of all men of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It’s a pivotal moment in the Gospel, emphasizing the global mission of spreading the teachings of Christianity. The beginning of the chapter describes to the reader an angel present at the tomb of Jesus. An earthquake occurs when an angel comes down from heaven. Mary Magdalene and Mary of Bethany appear to be visiting the tomb of Jesus, where they meet with this angel of God. As the text explains, the angel removes the stone from the tomb, and its countenance is so radiant that he “looks like lightning and his clothes were like snow.” (Verse 2,3) The guards left to watch over the tomb are scared into a zombie-like state, but the angel does not address them but the women. The angel reassures the women that they need not be afraid. The women are sent to tell the disciples that Jesus has risen and that he will visit them as well. Jesus implies that he already knows there will be disciples who do not believe, so his appearing to them will help their unbelief. Jesus appears to the remaining disciples and tells them to go and teach all the nations. He is sending them to go and make more disciples.

Paula Jones Narrative Passage 3 Narrative Passage-Meaning of the Passage, Then Matthew 28 is the final chapter of the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament. The key passage in this chapter is often called the Great Commission, where Jesus instructs his disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The context of Matthew 28 is after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In this chapter, Jesus appears to his disciples in Galilee, and he commissions them to spread his teachings to the world. The passage emphasizes the universal scope of the Christian mission and the importance of spreading the message of Jesus. The Gospel of Matthew, including chapter 28, is one of the four canonical Gospels in the New Testament. It is believed to have been written by the apostle Matthew, also known as Levi, a tax collector who became one of the twelve disciples of Jesus. Scholars and theologians may offer different perspectives on interpreting this passage, but it is generally seen as a call to share the Christian faith globally.
Paula Jones Narrative Passage 4 Narrative Passage- “Theological Truth” The theological truth of Matthew 28 is that it is the last task given to us by the Son of God, Jesus Christ. After experiencing the brutal death on the cross for the salvation of humanity, He revealed Himself to the women who stood beside him unwavering and faithfully. The theological truth we see here in this last chapter of the book of Matthew lets us know that God is always present as the triune God. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are our inheritance, and the authority and power that Jesus possessed and displayed while here on earth amongst his disciples is also within us. We can also see in the passage that, as humans, we still doubt God, although we’ve experienced his miracles and wonders firsthand. We are riddled with fear despite seeing what God's power can do.
Paula Jones Narrative Passage 5 Narrative Passage-Application for Today The relevance of Matthew 28 to the present day is unequivocally apparent. We are in a position that is far more advantageous than the followers of Christ were back then. In our technologically advanced world, we are able to communicate with a large number of people with only the press of a button. The social media platforms have emerged as some of the most effective tools utilized by our present generation as well as others all around the world. This makes it simpler and more convenient for followers of Christ to reach out to people all around the world. In order to put the Great Commission into practice, one must actively engage in spreading the truths that Jesus imparted. The instructions to go and make disciples of folks all throughout the globe might also be utilized in a very effective manner through the application of mission work. The Christian life and the influence that Jesus Christ would like his disciples to make are both embodied in the practice of incorporating one's faith into various acts of service and addressing the concerns of society.
