Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week
. Share in your own words several insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria:
1.
200–300 words in length (please include your word count at the bottom of the section).
2.
Include at least 3 references.
Response: From the reading this week there were a few scriptures that stood out to be about people falling away from God. In Isaiah chapter 29 verses 13 and 14 it talks about how his people would speak about how they were close to God, but their hearts had fallen away. I know there have been time for me when I would try to tell myself I was close to God but in my heart I was not. Another scripture was in Acts chapter 20 verses 29 and 30. Hear it is talking about how when the shepherd leaves his flock the wolves will be among the sheep. I know. That when I am not near to God the wolves are truly close and do cause harm to my life. The last scripture was in the Doctrine and Covenants chapter 86 verse 1 though 3, here it talked about when to apostles fell asleep bad things started to happen to the tares. If we are letting ourselves fall asleep spiritually who knows what is happening to our tares. I know that the only way to have comfort, direction, and protection in this life is if we draw closer to our Heavenly Father and rely on him.
Word Count:205 3. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The readings this week of ‘
The Need for a Restoration
’ as well as the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
religious intolerance/persecution. Response: In the world today, it has become extremely hard to stick to the believes and directions given from the prophets that are with our church standards. Every day the world becomes more relaxed with the topics such as marriage, family, gender identity and many others that we hold so sacred in our church. We have had divine revelation of the way we should live that the things that are important in our Heavenly Father so that we may return to him. We are seen as non-Christians that are judgement and have very strict rules. We stand out from the rest. We strive to live a life as Jesus would and follow the words that Joseph Smith translated all those years ago. It might seem hard during the times when people outside and those who used to be a part of the church say harsh and untrue things. They might make us question the teachings, history, or even our own testimonies, but when we look at the importance of the restoration of our church, we see the things that are necessary for our salvation. The events
and people that came before us all endured persecution as well, but they all knew that their work would bless all our lives. So, when we are being judged or ridiculed for our beliefs it is important to remember that our gospel has been restored so that we can have temples so that we can be sealed to our families and enter in the covenant with our heavenly father that will ensure that we can have eternal life. Without the Book of Mormon and the teaching and guidance we received through Joseph Smith than our time here on Earth would not be of any help to us. I know these things are true and the scriptures help us, and God loves us endlessly. Word Count: 308
