Personal Study Plan
Scriptures
Doctrine and Covenants 88: 119
119 The Lord commanded, “Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing.”
Doctrine and Covenants 88:124
“Cease to be idle; cease to be unclean; cease to find fault one with another; cease to sleep longer than is needful; retire to thy bed early, that ye may not be weary; arise early, that your bodies and your minds may be invigorated.”
These scriptures remind us of the importance of order. As we seek knowledge and learning we much prepare ourselves for success by making specific arrangements for the tasks and responsibilities we want to complete. It is also important to coordinate and be prepared for the assignments given to us by teachers and students for events or activity we are asked to participate in. The definition of cease is to bring or come to an end. So, as we read D&C 88:124 we can see that our bodies and minds have more energy and strength when we refrain from things that
cloud or minds and judgement. Choosing to stop negative behavior that stops your progression is an important of Heavenly Father’s plan for us. He placed us on earth to learn and grow and experience things by doing his work, by being a positive example to others, by taking care of our minds and bodies so that we have strength and energy. The Lord has given us many opportunities for us to serve others and in doing this we learn. By moving forward and doing tasks assigned to us we increase our learning and the tasks become easier. We can feel joy and
satisfaction from doing those things that help our life to move forward with balance and obedience.
As I read these scriptures, I feel a greater desire to organize my time, talents, and my goals. I know that as I continue to obey Heavenly Fathers plan, I will find joy in my life. Organizing my tasks for school as well as keeping my personal life in order I know I will have energy and strength to find success and progress in learning and life. Having a positive attitude in life is important to me and I know it is important to my Heavenly Father; to see others as he sees them. I also know that if I take care of my mind and my physical body, I will be blessed with the opportunities that I need in this life. Ranked Study Strategies
1.
Organize time and try to focus on task (e.g., Anderson & Fuller, 2010; Craik, Govoni, Naveh-Benjamin, & Anderson, 1996)
2.
Attend class on a regular basis (Woody Allen, as cited in Safire, 2001, para. 11)
3.
Get enough sleep, exercise, so that my body will be strong, rested, and able to focus. (Berman, Jonides, & Kaplan, 2008)
My Plan
As I have prepared to come to college, I knew it would be important for me to organize my time so that I could get homework done, meet new people, exercise, and have some
fun down time. I knew that being away from home would be an adjustment and it has been for me, but I didn’t realize the stress I would be under trying to do all this. I knew staying focused would also be a challenge. So, my plan is to put due dates in my phone and review them after attending class. Also, with new roommates and activities going on
I knew I would struggle with focusing my time and attention to my studies. I decided to set aside time every day in a quiet environment with less distractions. I knew attending class regularly would be important, so I have challenged myself to attend all my classes, so I don’t get behind. Because I am a new freshman and it is my first semester away from home, I knew I would have some anxiety and stress so I know it will be important to go to bed at a good time, which is hard because I love staying up late. But I know it will help me to feel more rested. So, I planned to go to bed earlier and wake up to go to the gym with my roommates. The exercise will help with the stress, and I know I will feel
strong and ready to start my day.
