Have you read the assignment carefully in advance of class?
Yes
In two or three sentences, how do the last six verses of Jacob 4 clarify the meaning of the story told in Jacob 5?
The last six verses of Jacob 4 explain that the Lord’s ways are mysterious and unsearchable, and that He has power to fulfill His promises and covenants with His people. They also testify that the Lord will manifest Himself to those who diligently seek Him, and that He will eventually gather His scattered Israel and restore them to His fold. These verses help us understand the allegory of the olive tree in Jacob 5, which illustrates the Lord’s dealings with the house of Israel throughout history and in the latter days.
In two or three sentences, what does the story in Jacob 5 add to the covenantal picture developed by Nephi?
I think a big part of it is that he shows the scatter and gather Israel throughout history and in the last days. The allegory emphasizes the Lord’s love, mercy, and justice in fulfilling his promises to his children. It also shows how the Gentiles will be grafted into the house of Israel and become part of the Lord’s covenant people.
