Topic 3 DQ 1 As an educator, you will be observing students and completing academic and behavioral assessments in your classroom. How will you provide a balance between fulfilling your obligation to gather and analyze data and managing student behaviors, all while meeting the established curriculum and standards to support the learning goals for all students in your classroom? The classroom environment plays a central role in encouraging positive behavior (Hancock & Carter, 2016). We, as educators, need to make sure our classroom is set up appropriately to meet our students’ needs. Consistent and predictable schedules and routines can increase student’s independence (Hancock & Carter, 2016). Yes, things will come up but once you have thought of your students the daily schedules and routines, they will be prepared to expect change. Then once you have your environment and schedules/routines set then you can work on collecting and analyze data. Being selective about the behaviors you observe and having a specific focus can help you pay attention to the most important details during observations (Bates, Schenck & Hoover, 2019).
