2 | P a g e Adaptive value of rough-and-tumble play and dominance: A vital component that builds a secure and healthy social attachment throughout life in known as rough-and-tumble play (RTP). Developmental psychology research shows that RTP is effective than any other forced activity such as dance or gymnastics which reduces a child’s playtime (Nicholson et al., 2014). RTP consist of games that children tend to enjoy such as pretend games of fighting/war, tag-and-chase, including red rover. However, forced additional activities such as both gymnastics and dance do not hold a child’s attention and makes them willing participates in RTP. Through playing these games, kids will learn the concept relating to give-and-take policy appropriately during social interactions, learning to read body language, as well as both increased social and emotional skills which in turn improves cardiovascular health. Last, research has shown that RTP can be adaptive in hidden or unexpected situations. For instance, when children are engaged in RTP with their fathers, they are imprinted with the idea of not to hurt the weaker individual. Thus, RTP has various adaptive values that enhance the emotional, social development, and psychological of children (Nicholson et al., 2014). Examples of how language awareness fosters school-age children’s language: Both language and verbal communication awareness is crucial as it assumes that a notable job builds up their brains connection as it is key in the development within young kids. A child that writes and reads daily just like language plays a major role which enhances their tuning in, language, and talking abilities furthermore it assists in adapting to issues such as social and emotional problems (Beck, 2018). At the stage of when kids attend school, spoken language turns into a learning system that encourages awareness and social communication, helping them study increasingly, composing and listening abilities that are urgent in their
3 | P a g e psychosocial improvement. Pre-proficiency as well as early language skills are connected to further develop analyzing abilities and language skills in tutoring later. Last, as kids become increasingly capable, children will gain certainty and in general cooperate with others better which they will want to be more and put forth resources into educational activities while trying to figure out how to dole out the importance to the truth surrounding them (Beck, 2018). Self-esteem changes in middle childhood: The thoughts and feelings about oneself including the perception of how they adhere to their personal values in known as self-esteem. Self-esteem is when an individual becomes complete when their real-self matches with their ideal-self (healthofchildren.com). When an issue arises between these two widens, then the sense of self-esteem will be present as it decreases drastically. It is particularly important that an individual can keep oneself emotionally and psychologically healthy. At each developmental stage, the level of self-esteem is dependent upon a variety of factors. During the middle-childhood, children become active within social exchanges and demonstrate the importance of both peer and social approval. Depending on the level of acceptance gained from both society and peers will affect the development as well as the protection of self-esteem. Last, children that exhibit improved social skills are highly likely to be loved and accepted by their peer-group and society. In addition, nourishing a child’s social skills will assist them to develop and maintain their own self-esteem throughout the various stages of their life (healthofchildren.com). Emotional self-regulation improves in middle childhood: A major characteristic as well as a component pertaining to the sum of one’s emotions is referred as emotional self-regulation. 4 | P a g e they are not only feeling but experiencing as well including how they express their emotions appropriately to get the best result possible (Berk, 2018). During middle childhood, children will ignore their emotional regulating capacity as they are affected and influenced by their peer groups which they accredit a lot of their learning from. Furthermore, when emotional regulation is perfected within children, will lead them to develop a higher self-esteem, can improve their social functioning, and self-talk plus introspection which can be safeguard children from possible future emotional turmoil’s but only to a certain extent. Last, once babies are born, they will learn who they are by how they are treated, and loving relationships will provide young children with a sense of reassurance, protection, and loyalty. As adults, we are responsible for teaching our child/children how to form connections, convey one’s emotions, as well as deal with the endless possible challenges of everyday life of a variety of individuals life’s including the generations going forward (Berk, 2018).
