1 Bell Work Question #4 Carl Rogers, creator of "Person Centred Therapy," Fritz Perls, creator of "Gestalt therapy," and Albert Ellis, creator of "Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT)," are the three therapists featured in this documentary. Carl Rogers (1965) established unconditional positive regard, empathy, and congruence as the qualities necessary for effective communication. Question 3: In Roger's session, Gloria worries that her daughter may be in danger if she starts hosting male guests. During his session with Gloria, Rogers made use of meta- statements to demonstrate the authenticity of his client-centered approach to therapy. Question 4: According to Perls, one of the key tenets of gestalt therapy is learning to become more self-aware of one's internal experiences (including one's thoughts, emotions, perceptions, sensations, and bodily feelings) and exterior surroundings. Perls emphasises the importance of being in the "here and now" as a means of revealing repressed emotions, ideas, and awareness. This makes it easier to explore the benefits of increased self- awareness in a safe and supportive environment. The purpose of therapy is to help the patient stop concentrating on the past and start making better choices in the here and now. Several hypotheses form the foundation of rational therapy (RT). Ellis argues that the pursuit of happiness or the actualization of one's full potential should serve as a person's primary drive. Promoting self-awareness promotes in the development of coping and adaptive abilities, which are crucial because negative thoughts and irrational beliefs
2 inhibit people from accomplishing their goals. And Ellis thinks it's pointless to dwell on the past. Asking oneself, "I don't like the thing that I've done," is a common self-reflection, as stated by Ellis say in question #6. My own actions irritate me...And I know I'm a bad person because I dislike my own actions. I am worthless. I'm a shady character. Question 7: What is the most notable distinction between the three therapy approaches? Both the client and the therapist maintain stable patterns of behaviour and expression through the conversation. Therefore, the client's response is proportional to the therapist's level of self-expression. I find the most resonance with Rogers' "person-centered therapy" approach (Q.8). Rogers made an effort to understand Gloria's perspective, and he gave her emotions serious consideration. He was like a mirror, reflecting back all of Gloria's feelings, thoughts, and critiques. She felt she could be herself with him, and so she did. Rogers and Gloria's ongoing correspondence following the occurrence demonstrates the lasting influence the half an hour had on both of their lives.
