2 Controversial Music and Positive Social Change Video and media controversy surrounding Rihanna's personal abuse incident and subsequent music video/song with singer/songwriter Eminem The music video for "Love the Way You Lie" by Rihanna and Eminem. Rihanna and Eminem collaborated on a song called "Love the Way You Lie" that came out in 2010. Lyrically and visually, the song depicts a poisonous connection between two people. Rihanna's participation in the song and video stoked media controversy since it reminded many of her abusive relationship with Chris Brown. Erikson's Stage Theory and Eminem's Stance on Unhealthy Relationships Individuals, as described by Erikson's stage theory of psychosocial development, go through several phases, each of which has a distinct crisis that must be overcome. Many of Eminem's songs, such as "Love the Way You Lie," are autobiographical and represent the tensions and difficulties he has had in life, which may be mapped into Erikson's stage of identity vs. role confusion. Young people are working to define who they are at this point in their development. Perhaps Eminem's experiences and difficulties developing healthy interpersonal bonds inform his depiction of toxic relationships. Positive Impact on Development While "Love the Way You Lie" has been criticized, it might have a constructive effect on society. Some listeners may be moved to examine their own experiences with unhealthy relationships after hearing how this song depicts the fallout of a poisonous one.

Certain songs may encourage healthy ideals, while others encourage detrimental preconceptions or actions. Promoting Positive Social Change: Selecting a Song/Music Video I have chosen Andra Day's "Rise Up" song and music video to inspire people to make a difference in the world. This upbeat tune promotes perseverance, optimism, and harmony ( Bennett & Rogers, 2019) . The words encourage listeners to take risks and fight for their beliefs. In the face of misfortune, the music video's depiction of a wide range of characters banding together for support resonates deeply and inspires empathy. Conclusion The meanings transmitted by music give it its potency as a vehicle for social transformation. Although "Love the Way You Lie" does not directly criticize abusive relationships, it provides a forum to address the issue. In addition, Erikson's theory of developmental stages helps us see how Eminem's adversities may have informed his music. But songs like Andra's "Rise Up " may help bring about constructive social change by serving as
