Controversial Paper: E collar on Dog Training An E collar is an electric equipment that is used to aid in the training of dogs. They are also referred to as zap or electric collar (Cleim, 2020). E-collars are devices that transmit physical impulses via the collar to provide feedback to dogs so they may learn the difference between good and poor behavior. The E collars are fitted with receivers which vibrate instead of producing electric output. Other types of E Collars are installed with GPS which helps to track dogs’ movement. The use of E collars in dog training is linked to various effectiveness and efficiencies. For instance, some of the scholars argue that the E collars results in to undesirable behavior in dogs as a result imposition of adverse provocations. On the other hand, supporting articles argue effectiveness of use of E collars in controlling dogs behavior depending on needs. However, it is important to ensure that your dog is not being frustrated or harmed by the use of E collar in training. This article will therefore present on the controversy existing between the us of E collar in training. A dog learns behavior quickly while using E collar as opposed to when not using ( Byron Pappageorge , 2017 ). The E collar works theoretically in that the mind of dog learns a behavior by the jolt which follows after the beep. There are arguments that mind perform by associations (Cleim, 2020). As soon as we are born, we begin making associations Because we associate red with fire, flame, and hot stoves, we learn that red implies halt. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee has long been linked with the beginning of a new day. Also, we may associate our parent’s cologne with fondness and love. Operant conditioning refers to the process of learning by observing and reacting to our surroundings and it is equally natural. This argument is also supported in the Skinner’s Box Theory (Cleim, 2020). The Skinner applied the theory of positive reprimand and negative underpinning to learn behavior. Therefore, it is easy to influence the
behavior of a dog using the E collar. This is because dog learns through the concept of positive punishment and negative underpinning. Another argument for continued use of E collar in training is the flexibility in training. The Collar can do its job even if you're not there ( Byron Pappageorge , 2017 ). Electronic collars used in conjunction with electric fence are meant to operate even when the owner is not there. If the dog approaches the yard's border too closely, it will get the first cautionary signal. An electric shock will only be given when a dog crosses the border. Keep in mind, however, that although a shock collar may prevent your dog from exiting the house, it will not deter visitors or animals coming inside. This flexibility in their functioning in supports their continued used in training. Use of E collar has been reported to rapidly giving dogs an off-leash liberty ( Byron Pappageorge , 2017 ). This makes it possible for dog trainers and owners to effectively deal with negative behavior of pet dogs. Remote Collar reacts fast to change behavior in a dog and restrict its freedom. The functioning of theses E collar allows dog owners to allow movement of dog on their territories such as homestead and campsite. Allowing their usage in dog training will ensure control, easy communication and security of one’s dog. Adoption of E collars in dog training is supported by their linkage to the increased success rate of one’s dog ( Byron Pappageorge , 2017 ). Dogs are naturally drawn to the pack leader, who they want to please and follow his orders. They're learning how to satisfy you when you give them explicit instructions about what you don't like about them. This inspires the dog to go even beyond to make you happy. Through this, Dogs tend to learn more behavior that pleases their masters. In the long run of usage E collars, dogs end up learning more behavior and trick on how to please their masters. Not only in the controlling their behavior of your dog by E collar,

these equipment’s help in upholding a more appealing relationship between them and their masters. There is a more advantage in using this technique in training. Employing the use of E collar in the dog training has been argued advantageous because of their effectiveness and time saving for trainers. It takes a little time for the dig to learn a certain behavior. Using remote collar is more fulfilling since a change in a dog’s behavior can be detected in a short period of time. Dog trainers and owners are empowered by this motivation in that their dig has been able to learn tricks and behavior for a short period. Argument s have also been raised to counter and support the ban for the usage of electric devices in dog training. One of the arguments is that in regard to the skinner’s box theory, a dog trained with E Collar doesn’t learn a behavior but instead responds to the pain induced by the electric vibrations. In addition, a behavior learned through the E collar subjection are not long term and will require frequent reinforcement. A dog trained using E collars can never function in the absence of theses devices. These devices need to be banned since they make dogs to live under suppression of the collar rather than learning good behaviors. Suppression of E collar has also been evident for the increased aggressiveness in dogs. Most of the articles claim the behavior is learned via associations (L aynie , 2019). Trauma in living things is developed in a strange way. For instance, an individual who once smells passion few minutes before occurrence of a traumatic incident may develop a negativity about passion for the rest of their lives. Human brain begins gathering information ever since they are born. Therefore, the working principle of E collar is positive punishment ( China, et al.022). During training dogs may also obtain negative association’s which can trigger aggressive behavior of dogs to situations which we did not intend. For instance, in a case study of do wanting to come outside to interact with another dog then because of electric fence linked with the E collar, the
dog is prevented from coming outside. Most commonly the dog will develop a traumatic behavior for ither dogs and may be aggressive whenever they see other dogs. Use of E collars is linked to anxiety and other psychological effects to dogs. The two principles under which the collar uses are reprimand and reinforcement ( China, et al. 2022). They are basically the major modes of communication used by the dog trainers and owners. Punishments may be in form of slaps or whips and which tends which make dogs try avoid them every time. This strategy of training of dogs is seen not to be effective since they dogs are only taught how to avoid punishments instead of learning on how to thrive in different situation. The suppression subjected on dogs no not offer positive rewards on dogs. In contrast to the other mode of training they tend to be negative in the rewarding instead of positive such as ‘stay’, ‘playtime’ or other form of appreciation. Another disadvantage for the use of E collar is that they are limited to puppies of six months and below (Yin, 2011). Although they may exhibit negative behaviors it is difficult to impose collar stimuli on them. A dog owner will therefore have to wait till the puppies is mature enough to obey commands. Due to this E collar cannot be recommended as the best technique of dog training. Behavior has been described to develop after births which restricts this method on puppies. Arguably, there is controversy between people on the question whether the E collars should be permitted in dog training or not. In my opinion, the cons with which E collar poses on dog training overweighs its advantages. Reviewing most of the articles on E collar dog training have highlighted adverse effects of the electronic collars on dogs. We cannot feel the adversity of these effects which are directly felt by dogs. In my interaction with dogs, most of them that I have encountered are happy when they hear a beep sound is produced. Contrary, when a
vibration caused, most of theme tend hide, or escape a sign of fear or discomfort. Most of the data gathered on articles describing e collar dog training. However, the E collar has portrayed both positive and negatives effects the dog. However, most of the articles conclude that all dog trainnming should focus at achieving safety for the dogs. My father was a dog trainer, who used electronic collars in the past, but I've since stopped using them after learning about their benefits and drawbacks. It is heartbreaking to see a dog suffer from anxiety after a long period of collar usage on their trainings. Many dogs I work with have been subjected to unpleasant conditioning at some point throughout their lives, and I can tell you from my own experience that in more than half the situations I'm called into there is a history of this kind of treatment. There is a strong link between aggressiveness and positive reprimand principle with which the Collar training operates. I would therefore recommend for the banning of this E collar training and adoption of need- based training for dogs since it tends to ensure the most care and safety for our dogs. Other alternatives such as whistle, Ultrasonic bark regulators and adaptil may solve the weaknesses portrayed by these shock collars ( L aynie , 2019).
