Reflection on Arizona Tax System
When analyzing the Gospel of Matthew 25:35-40 we conclude that it contains a very powerful message.
A message focusing on social justice, compassion and Christian’s responsibility to take care of others in
need. In the pages of this Gospel Jesus took his dedicated time expressing to his followers the actions they
needed to take. Some of those actions included things like welcoming strangers, feeding the hungry,
clothing the naked and providing drinking water to people who are thirsty. Though the most important
part of all of this is that Jesus took the time to focus and identify with the needy. Saying when these
different acts are being done, they are being done for him (Bible Gateway, 2011).
When an individual or group of people is analyzing the Arizona tax system specifically it’s Christian
meaning it is super important that they focus on the social justice and ethical implications of the system.
We know that the purpose of taxes is to collect the government's revenue and then have it distributed to
multiple different programs and services that are designed to help the common good. Other types of taxes
are state income tax, sales tax and property tax. These different types of taxes end up having a significant
impact on multiple different types of economic stakeholders. Along with that they can end up
significantly impacting the social justice and ethical outcomes. (McClory 2010).
When people take the time to think about the social justice and ethical implications of Arizona tax system
it is crucial that they are also evaluating whether or not the money is being used to help people in need or
not. That can include but is not limited to social welfare programs, education, healthcare and projects that
will eventually benefit the community as a whole. To be completely fair and just, tax systems should
make sure that they are distributing the resources in an equitable way. That they are taking the time to
fully address income inequality and that the top and most important members of society are being cared
for (McClory, 2010).
To conclude, we can see that Matthew 25:35-40 strongly emphasized the vast importance of taking care
of others around you and devoting a significant amount of time promoting social justice. When looking at
the bigger picture it is important that you take the time to assess the multiple different types of taxes.
When dividing up the tax revenue and giving it to those in need, ethical consideration should be one of
the main concerns and focuses. How taxation impacts economic stakeholders is something that should be
considered. More specifically evaluated to make sure the burdens are being distributed equally and hugely
supporting social justice (Bible Gateway, 2011).
