Skills for Social Media E-Course: Go to https://braverangels.org/what-we- do/take-an-ecourse/ to access the e-course. Scroll down to the "Skills for Social Media" e-course & take the course. As you take the course, which by itself is approximately 40 minutes, please answer the following questions separately for this homework assignment: 1. Based on the categories discussed, do you present yourself on social media as a Gladiator, Defender, Sniper, Gang Member, Lurker, or Engager? Or would you describe your social media presence differently? Explain your answer. I see myself as a defender,
I always like to defend things and people. Especially if I see someone being ignorant about a certain topic and isn’t willing to educate themselves on the topic. 2. List the 5 non-polarizing strategies for Engagers offered in this e-course. Don’t try to change someone’s mind. Don’t share personal negative feelings. Amplify posts from exemplary people. Post what you’re doing personally to try to stay open. Follow some people you disagree with. 3. After reading Elizabeth’s post on police killing, what 6 skills are suggested for responding? Give your own view with an "I-statement," not a "Truth-statement.", If you believe that others will strongly disagree with facts you are presenting, cite sources for your viewpoint. Don’t label the position of people who disagree with you with “red flag” terms. Don’t assume you absolutely know the “real” motives of large groups of people on the other side of an issue . If you have a personal story behind your view, consider sharing it. Before you post, check to see if it stereotypes, dismisses, ridicules, or treats people or group others with contempt. 4. Offer at least 5 other suggestions for replying to & commenting on other people’s social media posts. Reflect before writing. Acknowledge the other person’s view before disagreeing. Ask for clarification. Give your perspective. Avoid making it personal. 5. What about this course left the greatest impression on you & why? Learning not to take things personal on social media especially if it wasnt directed towards you. Also clarifying when you say something.
