1) Is the right to gun ownership unlimited? Explain. The Second Amendment right is not infinite, like most other rights. Any type of weapon, used in any way and for any purpose, cannot be kept or carried openly. 2) Can state or local government bar an individual from gun ownership? Explain. The Second Amendment claims that citizens do not have a personal right to own weapons and that local, state, and federal legislative bodies can restrict firearms without violating citizens' rights. 3) To many constitutional scholars, the modern-day successor to the “militia” or “minutemen” is today’s ___It's today's National Guard. ________. 4) In the video Bowling for Columbine, Michael Moore suggests that the United States is a violent country. After watching the video, what argument(s) could you make to a pro-gun advocate about restricting the availability of guns in the United States? Beginning with Iranian Prime Minister Mossadeq and finishing with the second plane falling into the World Trade Center, the sequence is a collage of photographs. Each clip has supporting text that details the scene in which the photograph is set. The two are used in tandem to demonstrate America's unfavorable foreign policy and its consequences. Moore shows horrifying photos of dead civilians at various points in the scenario, and there is also implied information that thousands of people have been killed. The spectator is made to question many of America's foreign policy decisions as a result of the use of montage, especially the choice to invade Iraq in 2002 at the time. This technique generates an overtly negative perception of America. 5) During the colonial period, why did Americans despise the British use of a standing army? Many further protested to being expected to supply accommodation and supplies since they perceived this as yet another covert taxation tactic. 6) In your own words, what is the significance of the District of Columbia v. Heller decision? More simply put, why is the decision important? The appeal court determined that D.C.'s handgun ban and the requirement that guns in the home be kept inactive violated the individual right to bear arms protected by the Second Amendment.
