President Roosevelt said that in conflicts between European powers and Latin American countries the United states would enforce the claims of the European power. Panama Canal (1904 – 1914) It was an artificial waterway in panama that was important for trade and that connects the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans and that connects north and the south America III. Presidents’ Policies “Big Stick Policy” President: Theodore Roosevelt Definition: He kept the united states out of conflicts by threatening to use force Examples: The construction of the Panama canal and used threats to get all the countries to collaborate “Dollar Diplomacy” President: _ Taft __ Definition: It minimize the use of military force and uses us economic power to guarantee loans to other countries Examples: In china taft tried to be in power by making loans “Moral Diplomacy” President: Wilson Definition: The United States to only support countries whose beliefs matched theirs Examples: Wilson refused to acknowledge a president of mexico because he thought the president had taken over by force IV. World War I (1914 – 1918) Allied Powers: Great britain, France, Russia, Italy, romania, Japan, United States Central Powers: Germany, Austria - Hungary, Bulgaria, Ottoman empire M.A.I.I.N.
