If more than 60 percent of the federal budget is "mandatory spending," what is left
to cut? What economic goals do categories of mandatory spending support? What
programs should be abolished or cut? Should any programs be expanded? If so,
identify which ones and explain why they should be expanded.ief agencies such as
the Red Cross?
We need to minimize expenditure on non-discretionary items to lower the deficit
in the budget. This will result in a reduction in the number of people working for the
federal government as well as the number of programs that the government runs.
Spending that is required by law would include entitlement programs like Medicare and
Medicaid, and Social Security. These are quite popular among Americans because they
provide a certain level of life for many people who do not have the financial resources
necessary to pay for retirement or healthcare on their own. On the other hand, Medicare
is a long-term insurance program that provides medical treatment to those over 65.
Medicaid, on the other hand, offers medical coverage to families with low incomes.
Although required expenditure accounts for the highest share of total budget, this
category of spending also needs the most cutting down. One strategy for achieving this
goal is to implement "sequestration," a process that reduces spending across the board
and focuses on discretionary expenditures. It is necessary to do away with some
organizations, such as the Red Cross, so that greater attention may be paid to the services
that are really required.

In recent years, the American armed forces have been called on to perform duties
that are more humanitarian than militaristic, providing support after the
Fukushima disaster, in addition to funds for drought victimes in Ethiopia, COVID-
19 vaccinations to countries who could not afford them, Ebola patients in West
Africa, and earthquake victimes in Nepal. Do we have an obligation to assist other
countries experiencing a crisis, or should that be left to private relief agencies such
as the Red Cross?
It is my opinion that we are obligated to help other nations who are now going
through a crisis since this may be the only way to stop such catastrophes from occurring
in the future. Nevertheless, private relief organizations like the Red Cross should still be
called for assistance because of their well-established track record and extensive
knowledge in assisting others. They are not required to offer help by the government, but
they do it nonetheless because they believe it is in the best interest of the people they
serve and the contributors to their organization.
In times of crisis, the United States has always been there to provide a helping
hand to other nations. It's a big reason why the United States is so powerful. It's possible
that we won't be able to provide as much assistance as we'd like at some points but be
assured that we'll do all our power to help. Helping nations hit by the current COVID-19
epidemic is a recent instance of this kind of action on our part. We have helped nations
that cannot otherwise afford vaccines by providing them with them, and we have also
sent medical professionals to assist with patient care. Additionally, we have supplied
financial aid to nations impacted by the epidemic. We've helped nations rebuild after
natural calamities, too. The Nepalese earthquake necessitated the dispatch of medical

personnel to aid in the care of victims. We also contributed financially to infrastructure
restoration efforts. Whether it's via medical aid, disaster relief, or financial aid, we'll keep
helping nations who need it. We will always do everything we can to assist people in
need since we consider it our moral obligation.
