Lab #5 Total Station Transverse Lab Course Section: CE200A Submitted By: Juan Gutierrez, Maria Borges, Desmond Bangura, Kiran Gali Srinivas Date Submitted: November 25, 2023
1. Objective This lab's goals are to calculate the traverse's horizontal internal angle, the horizontal distance between its points, the precision that can be attained with a complete station, and the coordinates of each traverse point. 2. Equipment -Total Station -tripod -prism pole -field book 3. Procedure Every individual group will need to find the horizontal distance and horizontal angles between their traverse points. To get accurate results two trails need to be performed. The measurements will be precise since it is being computed. 1) Students will set up the total station over a traverse point. Enter the temperature, pressure and humidity. 2) ensure that the laser is directly on the center of the traverse point. Create a job folder lab as a group name. A new point will need to be added with specific coordinates of (5000.00,5000.00) and the elevation will be 100.00. The point must be used for all the sets in the lab 3) Students will set the orientation on the backsight which will be considered clockwise from the instrument in the traverse network. 4) Students will need to flop the scope and look at the backsight and get measurements and record the horizontal angle and distance 5) They will turn the foresight and measure the horizontal angle and distance as well 6) Ensure to double check your work before setting up the instruments over
7) The students must travel counterclockwise through the traverse network and set up the instrument next to each traverse point. Make sure to conduct trail and trail 2 8) The sum between the interior angles will be within 1’ of the quantity (n-2)*180 degrees where the N is equal to the number of the angles in the traverse. WHich will allow there to be a reduction in error. 9) Using the average of the angle convert the interior angles to the azimuths and use the asmuths and average horizontal distance to compute (y,x) 4. Trial #2: Angle Adjustment: 5. Discussion In this traverse lab, we were able to put all of our skills together for the previous lab to map out important traverse points. These traverse points were taken because we intend to build a map of the area we surveyed these past weeks. One critical step in the calculations of this lab was to have the northing and easting points. These points would

help our group do the Compass Bowditch calculations. Due to the group's preparation we were able to get set up easily. However, the rodman job seemed tedious yet was very important to the success of the lab. If the rodman was not able to hold the rod level while measurements were taken, our lab would be filled with errors. In this case, the group communicated effectively, allowing the rodman to first be leveled before any records were taken. Also, by taking measurements at every critical point in our area, our map will come out very accurate. Our group is sure that our misclosure does not exceed the allowed misclosure. 6. Field Book copy
