PHYS 103 L AB R EPORT : S ERIES AND P ARALLEL A SSIGNMENT I NSTRUCTIONS Madison Otmanns O VERVIEW Laboratory reports are an essential component of a physics education. I NSTRUCTIONS Take pictures of the setup when prompted by the assignment and put the photos into a Word document. Label each step prior to the photo with the step in the instructions and include a summary of your observations for each activity within the Word document. Activity 1 Submit Name and Date Photo Observations: 1.The bulb shines when the circuit is connected. 2. The lamps in this configuration shine at a lower intensity than when a single bulb is used in a circuit. 3. All three lamps have the same brightness. The brightness of a single bulb in this configuration, however, is lower than when only two lamps are linked in series. When any of the lamps is unplugged, the rest of the lamps go out. Activity 2
PHYS 103 Observation: Linking the three bulbs in series results in brighter illumination. Turning off one bulb does not affect the brightness of the other two. Activity 3 Ovservations: - The lamps at positions R2 and R3 have equal brightness when all bulbs are connected, but the lamp at R1 is brighter than the others. -When the lamp at R1 was turned off, all lamps turned off. - Removing the bulb at R2 caused R1 to dim, and the bulb at R3 became as bright as the lamp at R1.
