Kepler's Laws Lab Activity Answer Sheet Question Number Answer Question 1 215a – 117p/ 215a + 117p 98/332 = .29 Question 2 Mercury is closest to my ellipse, by a margin of .09. Question 3 Other planets are more elliptical since their perihelion is further away. Question 4 I notice that the triangles are all a different thickness and length but according to the second law they should all be the same area. Question 5 When the planet is the closest to the sun it appears to be a quarter semi circle. Furthest from the sun it makes a sharp and narrow triangle. Question 6 The planet moves the fastest during the perihelion and slowest during the aphelion. This is because of the suns gravitational pull. Question 7 Mercury has a short orbital distance while Neptune’s is longer, the difference is led by distance to the sun. Question 8 The relationship between period and distance is linear because the closer the planet the shorter the orbital period and vice versa. Question 9 I notice that the stars always stay the same distance apart from the center as they orbit. Question 10 The one on the outside is more massive since it’s less affected by the gravitational pull. Question 11 What has changed is that both stars have similar aphelions to each other. Question 12 The star that has the smaller orbit is more massive because of the speed in which it moves around the x compared to the other.
