Online Education VS Ground Education
Online Education VS Ground Education
Education is a topic that almost everyone participates in. With technology advancing, education is becoming more of a for-front conversation. Because education and its aspects are changing, many people are choosing different methods to obtain their education. One of those methods is online education. Online education is rising as more and more people prefer that option instead of a traditional setting. “Online education is established, growing, and here to stay.
It is creating new opportunities for students and also for faculty, regulators of education, and the educational institutions themselves” (Mayadas et al., 2009, para. 1). The convenience of online education is helping many students choose between online and ground education. Although online education may seem as if it is more challenging than ground education for some people, the turnaround rate for online education has given many people the thought that it could be better
than traditional ground education. Because of the increase in online education, many people are questioning if online education is as good as online education. In this paper, I will be discussing online education and the aspects of it to determine if it is as good as traditional education. Also, in this paper, I will be addressing the question, “Is online education ‘as good as’ on-ground education generally?”
Argument That Online Education Is Just as Good
Premise 1: Students can access any assignments and materials anytime and day of the week, which gives them an excellent opportunity to study more.
Premise 2: Online education services people who are not able to access traditional classroom education because of time, work, geography, financial situations, and family.
Premise 3: Online education is affordable because of the reduced physical classrooms and other classroom resources needed.

Online Education VS Ground Education
Conclusion: Online education is a good option for people who cannot attend traditional education, hence why online education enrollment is rising.
Support For The
Argument That Online Education Is Just as Good
For the argument supporting online education, I chose an article by Chi-Sing Li and Beverly Irby. This article comes from the College Student Journal. In this article, Li and Irby discuss online education. The authors separate online education into characteristics such as attractiveness, benefits, challenges, concerns, and recommendations for readers to understand online education better. This argument presents sound reasoning. This is a scholarly article, which means it qualifies as a credible source. The information in this article is supported with evidence and references that are scholarly as well. The argument in this source is well put together. The premises are supported with evidence, which makes it easier to follow and understand. Because the premises are understandable and put together well, the conclusion is thought-out and supportive of the claims. This makes the conclusion stable and robust.
Argument That Online Education Is Not as Good
Premise 1: Assignments are short and simple because of the large number of students in one class.
Premise 2: Some students rely on self-discipline to get through the material and the coursework on their own.
Premise 3: Online classes require a computer or a laptop and a reliable internet connection that not many people are able to access.
Conclusion: Online classes are suitable for people who cannot physically attend on-
ground education; however, it fails to provide an education that focuses on critical thinking instead of how more comfortable online education can be.

Online Education VS Ground Education
Support For The
Argument That Online Education Is Not as Good
The article I chose that is against online education is “Opinion: Online Classes Are Not Effective in Educating Students” by Catherine Van Weele. The main argument for this article is how online education is not as effective as ground education. The author argues how online education is not a good option for everyone. The author gives examples of how ineffective online
education is. The argument of this article makes it a source with quality reasoning. It focuses on how online education is not effective. There are several claims in the article that the author made that supports the initial thought of online education not being effective for students. The claims made are supported with evidence to back them. The author also discusses a personal example from their experience with online education that validates the argument against online education.
Evidence and personal experiences are great pieces that support a claim and helps it be valuable. Overall the key points made in the article solidifies it as a reliable reasoning source.
Analysis of the Reasoning on Both Sides
Both arguments have premises that are strong and solid. The key premises for the argument in support of online education being as good as traditional education are supported with evidence. The premises are clear and understandable and give substantial information. The source is also a scholarly source which the information in the article has been proven to be true. It has been peer-reviewed, making the information in the article substantial. This makes this argument very strong. The argument in support of online education not being as good as traditional education has information as well that makes the argument strong. In the article, the author uses personal experiences as evidence to support their claims. Personal experiences are strong pieces of evidence to show support of any argument. Those experiences validate any premises given.

Online Education VS Ground Education
After analyzing both arguments, the argument that I feel is stronger is the argument in support of online education being as good as traditional education. This argument is stronger because of the evidence. There is quality evidence that supports the premises. The source is also a scholarly source, which means it has been peer-reviewed and qualifies as substantial. Another reason why this argument is stronger is because of the rising rate of online education. As the state of the world continues to change, many people are relying on online education. The argument presented is one of the many reasons online education has been considered to be good enough to pursue. This makes the argument for online education stronger than the argument against online education.
Conclusion
Online education is growing more and more. As technology progresses, online education continues to make strides in the education world. “Online education is growing in national popularity as a cost effective and time-efficient alternative to traditional education” (Nelson, 2008, p. 501). Viewing both arguments, online education can be as good as traditional education.
Being cost-effective and manageable schedules are key elements that make online education good. Also, being able to track student achievement with online education successfully is another
element that makes it just as good as traditional education. While there are some great points made with online education, there are some points that would deem it not as good. Technology is
the main element that would consider online education not as good as traditional education. If technology fails, online education will fail. Although there are elements against online education,
it is considered to be a great alternative and just as good as on-ground education. Critical thinkers can address this issue easily by assessing both sides of the argument and drawing a

conclusion. Critical thinkers have the ability not to be biased and view both sides of an argument to make the best decision.
