Kayla Vaz PHI 210 Week 1 Discussion 1 March 3, 2020 For our week 1 discussion we are directed to define critical thinking and what it means to us. We must also support our definition of critical thinking with examples from the workplace. I am going to discuss what I believe is critical thinking by not using a dictionary. I believe critical thinking is being able to think outside the box and figure out different creative ways to ensure that the job in getting done but safely. For example, in the workplace that I work in there was a resident that kept getting up and down and would end up falling. Everyone has tried to think of ways to prevent this resident from falling and nothing worked. This is when the critical thinking came in to play. It was critical that we find a way to prevent this resident from falling. The team ended up deciding to get a doctor’s order to prevent the resident from standing due to that being the last option. According to Insight Assessment, “Critical thinking is used in the medical field to analyze and manage health risks.” (2020) In a professional setting critical thinking is being able to find out with health issues are more serious in order to be able to serve the correct person in a timely manner. To conclude, I defined what I believe critical thinking is with out using a dictionary. I also explained how critical thinking is going to benefit me in my future career and how my future career uses critical thinking.
