Moral Machine: Good or Bad? 1 Moral Machine: Good or Bad? Malia Dalumpinis Pima Community College Professor Sasiadek AI has been developing quickly through the years. We have reached the point where we have access to everything right at our fingertips. Throughout the development of AI we have gained access to autonomous vehicles. There are huge risks, but also huge benefits, when it comes to this technology. In the outcome of autonomous vehicles there are lots of critical stakeholders. The few that are at the top of the list would be consumers, auto companies and insurance companies. These stakeholders hold a lot of responsibility; consumers and auto companies could be held
Moral Machine: Good or Bad? accountable for accidents that neither of them were in the act of and insurance companies can deal with many more claims. Issues with this technology could be not stopping in time for pedestrians, as an example given in the article. Another one would be glitches can always happen, we deal with it all the time with just our phones and applications. An automobile could need an update and malfunction from this. This could be a huge risk to the lives of people. Deciding who is liable for any accidents with this level of technology is always hard to decide. Like stated in the paragraph before, it could fall back on the technology itself from glitches or even the person if they are carelessly driving; being on the phone, speeding or even drunk driving. I think a finger would mainly be pointed at the safety board for not ensuring public safety. I believe within the next few years we could reach the capability of being fully autonomous when our technology advances enough. If there ever reaches a time where this happens, we need to set safety protocols in place. For example, if something goes wrong with a vehicle, we recall and figure out the problem to be able to make it efficient. To ensure the well- being of our community, we can organize interactive public viewings that focus on promoting safety. These viewings can provide valuable information and resources to the public, while also fostering a sense of community engagement and awareness. All of the people who work as automobile drivers will risk losing their jobs if we ever reach this level of technology. As technology continues to advance, the possibility of replacing human drivers with automated systems becomes increasingly achievable. By removing the need for human intervention, we could potentially reduce the risk of human error and increase overall safety on our roads. This could also lead to greater efficiency and cost savings in the
