What solutions did they propose? Is there any justice to the charge that they merely exposed wrongs without trying to correct them?
Progressives in the United States had a lot of things wrong with their society.
Things like inequality, corruption, and social injustice. They proposed many solutions with labor reforms, women’s suffrage, and social welfare programs being a few. They wanted these solutions to solve these problems.
Some critics argued that progressives focused more on exposing rather than trying to correct them. Though, many progressives did in fact work towards correction. Like labor laws, woman’s suffrage, and social welfare
were some outcomes. Ultimately, the impact of the progressives was a combination of exposing and correcting.

: Assess the validity of the following statement, “'muckraking' journalists played an essential role in the progressive movement.”
“Muckraking” journalists played a huge role in the progressives during the 19

and 20
th
centuries. Investigative reporters like Upton Sinclair and Ida Tarbell dedicated their lives to expose the corruption in the American society
during that time. They brought issues to light. Issues like unsafe working conditions.
These journalists shaped public opinion and created a sense of urgency. Their works made big things happen like the Pure Food and Drug Act. By uncovering the hidden truths, they played a big role.

Each paragraph should be at least six sentences long. Points will be deducted if sentences appear to have been intentionally shortened to meet the required number of sentences.
