Fay Mattson Eastern Gateway Community College Ethics - PHI202_1001 Final Essay October 8, 2023
Walzer argues that killing in war is distinct from murder and a massacre because of the restrictions placed on the scope of combat (who can be killed and when). The goal of war is to create a more secure state of peace than the pre-bellum situation. Thus, war is permissible when it serves a legitimate, morally proper goal, such as the protection of the state, the advancement of a just cause, or the defense of the innocent. Walzer believes that killing in war is justified when it is done to achieve a legitimate goal and does not involve unnecessary suffering. He also believes that war should be conducted in a way that respects the rights of non-combatants and minimizes civilian casualties. Murray eventually reached a "purely natural law" philosophical conclusion. He began his 1945 philosophical defense with "essential definitions" of significant nouns he believed were pertinent to the discussion, including "conscience," "law," "state," and "God." He defines the concept of "human dignity" in this passage, which forms the theoretical cornerstone of the right to freedom of religion. 1. Murray and Walzer's arguments are illustrated by the case, in which they address a number of actual social issues such as: a. Drug abuse b. Veterans Issues 2. According to Walzer, war killing is different from murder and massacre due to the restrictions on the reach of battle. There is no crime more serious than aggression in war. War is fought to secure a better state of peace, which means a more secure state than the status quo ante bellum. War is fought to protect one's country from external threats and to restore order to a chaotic
situation. Aggression, on the other hand, is the act of using force against another without a legitimate reason, and it has no purpose whatsoever except to cause pain and destruction. 3. In Rebeca's case, being a single parent is a social issue that may compound into a psychological issue, which may explain why she relies on other activities. Let us consider the word "conscience" in this context while keeping in mind the four children that need their mother's care. As the argument is applicable, charitable giving is also included. Jimmy should then receive acknowledgement from the government for his service to the country as a veteran. suggesting that he should be compensated for his service. In this case study, both sides need help in some way. Considering the argument's inclusion of charitable giving, Jimmy ought to be honored by the state for his contributions. He should be provided with benefits such as housing help, disability payments, and other support that he deserves. It should also be considered that the government should help the four children whose mother is struggling to supply adequate care for them. Thus, based on moral grounds, it is important to consider the needs of each situation when helping those in need. 4. Give Rebecca some time to recoup, rehabilitate, or heal as we examine the case, for instance. Perhaps instead of encouraging her to continue with her vices, we should assist her rebuild her life by offering her counseling and funding for initiatives that would keep her busy. Then, for Jimmy, there are other government projects for them, and other agencies named for the advantages of troops who survived the conflict. We should also provide Rebecca with psychological support to help her cope with her trauma. Jimmy should also have access to rehabilitation and counseling services to help him adjust to civilian life. Additionally, both Rebecca and Jimmy should be provided with employment opportunities to help them find meaningful work and financial stability.

5. As I have said, I believed Rebecca should remain the beneficiary because she still had little children who needed to be safeguarded. The need for survival was not limited to Rebecca. With the help of other institutions, we can heal the mother. meaning that numerous individuals taken part. Focus should be placed on those who stand to gain from this. I wanted to consider the needs of the other children as well, and I knew that Rebecca would not be the only one to receive help from the added support. I also wanted to ensure that Rebecca would have the resources she needed to heal from her trauma and become a stronger person. By focusing on who else would be helped, I was making sure that all the people involved would benefit. Therefore, Rebecca should remain as the beneficiary of this plan, so that we can better aid her and those who are changed by her situation.
