2 Robert D. Stuart takes a position at the outset of his paper "Social Media: Establishing Criteria for Law Enforcement Use," using facts to strengthen his argument. The essay emphasizes the significance of knowing social media, how law enforcement uses social media, the difficulties law enforcement faces in using social media daily, and ultimately, the primary solutions employed to address these issues. Social media is widely used in today's society by many people, including law enforcement. Stuart (2013) reports that about 38% of defendants in law enforcement identify as police officers on their social media pages, with over 78% of them maintaining active accounts. Stuart added that posting such obvious police identities on social media platforms has both benefits and drawbacks. "Mistakes in social media use can jeopardize police safety and undermine criminal cases, resulting in criminal and civil liability exposure in addition to departmental embarrassment" (Stuart, 2013). Stuart claims that to maintain their distinctions between their public and professional life, law enforcement advocates make sure they have a distinct boundary. Because law enforcement work involves a great deal of sensitivity, this information is therefore very much supported. Nevertheless, using social media still has a lot of advantages, some of which are listed below. It is clear from the text that social media is mostly employed as a communication tool that employs a thorough audience strategy. People throughout the world can subscribe to and share any kind of knowledge via social media platforms. Social media is a really useful tool for law enforcement, especially in this day and age, because it makes communication so simple. Using social media into law enforcement operations
3 can benefit the agency in several ways, including improved public relations and streamlined criminal investigations. For example, police enforcement agencies can use social media to facilitate information sharing and provide details about various incidents around the nation (Stuart, 2013). Given that criminals may use social media to disclose their whereabouts and reveal their illicit activities through the posting of films, it follows that social media might serve as an investigative tool. However, Stuart highlights that law enforcement must exercise greater caution before disclosing any information on social networking sites. In the event of a fatal force scenario or a catastrophic traffic accident, for example, the author notes that "Officers posting information about how sleepy they are on duty can call into question their fitness for duty" (Stuart, 2013). In addition, he cautions law enforcement officials against sharing images of evidence that has been detained online as doing so could jeopardize their case. Before posting any information containing evidence on social media, the officers should first speak with the public prosecutor. An agent may be subject to disciplinary action if they disclose material that garners attention from social media users. The author illustrated the danger of law enforcement officials disclosing material on social media that could attract public attention by using Arizona's 2011 search for DISC. An analysis of ICJE research revealed that approximately 45% of authorities use social media for official reasons (Stuart, 2013). This indicates that the majority of police are constantly logged into their social media accounts and that there is a high likelihood that they will share what they do as professionals on social media. Stuart contends that in order to improve services, it will be important for the police to understand how social media is used in the modern world.

4 In conclusion, it is clear that the author encourages police use of social media, especially in light of the current circumstances. This will utilize both criminal investigation and crime prevention. Social media use by the police and other law enforcement agencies will generate good income and allow the public to disseminate information about crimes in their neighborhoods. As a result, it facilitates people's access to real-time information and the formulation of the required plans to enable them to easily investigate and resolve problems in their communities. Stuart is still of the opinion that the law enforcement agency need to control how its agents use social media, though, as it frequently has an impact on the way cases are prosecuted when agents disclose private information about a certain case. Since it involves members of the armed services, it becomes exceedingly challenging to keep an eye on each of them to determine whether they are active on social media: Therefore, putting methods and guidelines into practice for how enforcement officers use their social media accounts is the only surefire way to do this.
