2 Major Elements of Critical Thinking Critical thinking skills become activated at a particular time about a particular thing. This is the process of using analyzation and reasoning to work through an issue to achieve a logical explanation or answer. To use critical thinking skills, you need to look at the problem from multiple angles, starting with 3 major elements logical inquiry, problem solving, & evaluative decision-making. Critical thinking is all about asking questions like what do I know? and how do I know? These elements can give you a better sense of direction on what you are dealing with and how to tackle it. Logical Inquiry This part of critical thinking requires you to question the information and the data you’ve been given. To distinguish between the good and bad as well as what is true and what is false. To better help you formulate a logical perspective you can start with these questions that can be used in any situation or scenario. What is happening? This will help you to start formulating questions. Why is this important? To determine the significance and if you agree. What do I see? Figure out is there anything missing. These questions will give you the information to make a decision based on logic instead of assumption. Problem solving The ability to use knowledge and fact to execute and solve the problem. You will first start by recognizing the problem or situation. Then defining the problem which will help you to focus on the real problem at hand. You will use concepts and generalizations to test your hypothesis. Finally, you should reach and form a conclusion that helps you to solve the problem.
3 Evaluative decision-making Evaluation is used in critical thinking to aid you in examining all the evidence to make an executive decision. To use evaluative decision-making, it involves digging deeper using thoughtful questions and identifying assumptions. By doing this you should be able to determine the depth of the situation and draw a conclusion based on the evidence collected.

4 Best practices for a medical office Financial policies can be very beneficial to a medical office. Having a solid well thought out policy it will not only provide the practice with legal protection, but it will allow patients to have a clear understanding of their financial responsibilities upon receiving care. While the practice documents the patients understanding and agreement. An effective medical office financial policy is one that is understood by all staff members and patients. When everyone is on the same page it allows things to run more smoothly. The practice should address different scenarios and situations in their financial policy such as. Financial agreements, payment plans. Along with payments for patients who are using self-pay options. If the practice offers any discounts tailored to patients with hardships or low income, that should be included in their financial policy. Practices who except certain types of payment such as cash, checks, money orders, and debit/credit cards, would need to include that in the policy as well. By verifying patient eligibility and collecting the appropriate copayments amounts staff is helping to implement and support the policy procedures. We’ve all been witness to a busy medical office and phones ringing off the hook & with busy offices staff tend to be forgetful about things they wouldn’t otherwise forget if the day were a little calmer. Such as forgetting to collect copayments or balances that have not yet been satisfied. By neglecting to do so they are not supporting the financial policy and could cause issues for the practice. Policy negligence has many consequences such as financial loss, security breach of patient health information (PHI) & a tainted reputation of the medical office.
5 My recommendation to ensure effective alignment of policies and procedures is the use of medical practice management software. This software is used to streamline important task within the practice such as recording patient demographics, managing charge capture in addition to appointment scheduling and preforming billing practices. By using this software, it will help to improve medical office operations and enhance patient care.
