1-2 Short Paper: A Global Approach to Ethics
Professional ethics and global ethics affect people/groups as a whole. Professional ethics
apply to professional entities, agencies or organizations as professional environments. They are protocols put into place to oversee people of different fields to be sure they are being responsible and doing the right thing but they vary according to each profession. A governing
body related to each profession creates a code of standards that professionals must adopt and practice. Whether you’re a doctor, lawyer or educator, you must be held accountable to the code of conduct established. For instance, physicians should be sure to provide care to make the patient better and in the patient’s best interest and not worse than they arrived. A lawyer should fairly defend their client according to law with the facts given despite their own personal opinion. An educator should not falsify records or documents of a student in exchange for a monetary bribe.
Global ethics
refers to standards shared by different faiths and cultures on earth that are universally accepted to be ethical and of moral value. The purpose is to set a code of conduct for nations and states to follow when dealing with others or each other globally. However, when dealing with various morals, values and government systems, it can be difficult to establish a set of codes all can adhere to. The text discusses an example of the United Nations
adopting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which defines the basic rights and freedom of all people. This is important because global ethics prioritizes human rights. Poverty is an example of why human rights is important and how global ethics can benefit. The poor tend to have less representation when it comes to the law than those that have more. They are more likely to be exploited and be victims of crime while many rich people have more money than needed leaving to question why some have nothing and others have so

much. Setting a global ethical framework would obligate wealth nations to reduce poverty by cutting back and providing aid to those that need it.
Global ethical frameworks are needed because
they establish trust between parties doing business together and set standards when engaging in business internationally. By continually
doing right by other companies, the trust is built. It is also important because it helps address problems, concerns or debates which result in ethical decision-making allowing for better relationships both internationally and locally.
A benefit of using ethical framework in the global management of climate change is that it allows countries to communicate and work together to reach an agreement, take action, resolve conflicts and establish priorities for climate ambition. It isn’t always easy to do this when we, as a whole, try to protect our community before thinking of outside areas especially when those communities may be the more vulnerable compared to stronger or wealthier countries that can exploit or adapt easily to climate impacts. However, working together is key to tackle climate change. A global ethical framework would provide the standard for weaker countries to be protected from stronger countries dominating and for wealthier countries to financially assist those countries who need it in order to prevent harm or threat from climate change.
