(1)Topic 1 DQ 1 Response In the field of medicine, compassion is among the most crucial components. If it is present or absent, it may indicate whether or not patients are receiving the right care. As someone who plans to work in the health field, I believe it would be quite easy to live out the Christian missional purpose by means of spreading kindness and caring for others. Christianity teaches that all people are created equal and should be treated as so. So, with my future vocation being one as an ultrasound technician, I could practice the morality of Christianity and demonstrate compassionate care by being kind and understanding towards my patients. People working in the health field come across all kinds of people. It is our job to treat and care for patients in the best way we can. This means being inclusive of things like religion, race, and worldview regardless of what our own personal beliefs are. Christianity also teaches about the love Jesus had for his people and his urge to serve others. While working with both my coworkers and patients in the health field, I too can show my love for mankind by doing a small part in serving the community around me. Spirituality is more than just praying and being inspired by a religious community to work in the name of God. A life lived in respect to God as our ultimate worth is referred to as spirituality. As a result, spirituality shapes our perspective on life, upholds our moral principles, and fosters the way of living which results from our devotion to God. Similarly, ethics cannot be minimized or limited to the reasons we provide for our actions as well as the decisions we make. In addition to being a moral competency, being able to recognize and address problems is a sign of spirituality. When it comes to the inner workings of human behavior, ethics is deeply ingrained in our spirituality. Our spirituality, in turn, expresses our ethics by communicating a way of living that is based on our love for God.
With the perspective of Christian spirituality, healthcare workers can provide compassionate care by acknowledging and building a personal relationship with God. In doing so, God can fill a person’s heart with the ability to care for their patients with the sole purpose of helping another person irrespective of how they may feel personally, who they are caring for, or the situation at hand. Furthermore, healthcare workers can come together in God’s name to collectively work on helping patients make ethical decisions. Fitch, M., & Bartlett, R. (2019). I love how you mentioned your faith gives you the strength to get up and help others every day. One way to find our purpose in this world is to make use of the talents given to us by God. Everyone is good at something different. If we all use our talents for good, we can work together to create a positive effect on the world. We can find our purpose by doing what is meaningful to us and using that to make an impact on others. This means we can find our purpose in the places we find happiness. If we do something we enjoy doing with the intention of benefiting others, we may find that we put more time and consideration into our actions. The reason being that we know along with our own self-satisfaction we are helping others, which in turn gives us a sense of purpose. Rura, N. (2022, July 12). Spirituality linked with better health outcomes, patient care . Harvard Gazette. https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2022/07/spirituality-linked-with-better- health-outcomes-patient-care/ Hey Cirley! I completely agree, our struggles and difficulties serve a great deal in strengthening our relationship with God. We tend to turn more towards God in our times of need than in our times of happiness. This shows the connection we build with him when we undergo some sort of suffering. Also, I believe suffering is a test of faith. Our faith does not protect us against pain and suffering, rather it allows us to open ourselves towards God and his plan for us. Seeking God during difficult times allows us to view life in a different perspective. We are able to see and understand there is much more to life than what meets the eye. We can see that faith means honest prayer and that life includes humility, perseverance, and hope.
