Report
In general, most people diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) either notice a lump or mass in the neck that leads them to seek medical attention, and they can either be nontender or painful. The lumps may be on both sides of the neck towards the back of the neck. The cancer is caused by spreading to the lymph nodes in the neck and making them swell. The symptoms of NPC include (ACS, 2022): Hearing loss, ringing in the ear, pain, or feeling of fullness in the ear, especially on one side only Ear infections that keep coming back Nasal blockage or stuffiness Nosebleeds Headaches Facial pain or numbness Trouble opening your mouth Blurred or double vision Trouble breathing or talking Please pay close attention to children because they are prone to ear infections, which are less common in adults. Suppose the patient develops an infection in one ear and has not had an ear infection. In that case, referring to a specialist to examine the nasopharynx is essential, especially if the patient does not have an upper respiratory tract infection, such as a cold or an ear infection in the past. Although there are many signs and symptoms of NPC, they are more often caused by other illnesses and less severe diseases. Nevertheless, suppose the patient has any of these problems. In that case, it is vital to refer to the appropriate specialist ENT immediately so it can be diagnosed and adequately treated to prevent the spread of cancer (ACS, 2022).   Reference: American Cancer Society (ACS).
