Report
Hi everyone, For my final Technical Recommendation Project, I focus on urinary tract infections in a long-term care facility, specifically reducing UTIs. My current occupation is as a nurse in a pediatric long-term care facility. I found that making my Technical Project on UTIs is something relevant to my workplace because this often happens when the children at my job end up getting UTIs. This could be caused by many reasons, from improper catheterization or other factors like less frequent diaper changes, irregular toileting schedules, or poor hygiene. I chose the peer- reviewed article “Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections” by Michael J. Bono, Stephen W. Leslie and Wanda C. Reygaert. This article focuses on UTIs, the etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, evaluation, and infection treatment. The article's author- Dr. Michael J. Bono is a Medical Doctor and Professor of Emergency Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School, who also won a teaching award in 2016. He has done wound care, urinary tract infection, and malpractice defense and is published on PubMed Publications. Dr. Bono is knowledgeable about urinary tract infections based on his educational background and current position as a professor of medicine at EVMS. Dr. Stephen W. Leslie is also a medical doctor teaching urology at Creighton University who is currently a practicing urologist with 48 years of experience in the field. Lastly, Dr. Wanda Reygaert is currently an associate professor at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine with multiple microbiological publications, so it appears she contributed with more of the microbiology and pathology of the article. All three authors of the article are well educated on their specific topic of interest, with each contributing their part in writing this piece. A website that I believe to be poorly designed, which I don’t frequent too often, is yahoo.com. Upon going to the page, I automatically felt overwhelmed. I feel like the website is entirely too busy. The moment I went on the website- I had a huge ad at the top of my screen instead of showcasing something more important. As I scroll down the page, there is no hierarchy or urgency regarding top news stories, unlike news.google.com. I will say I did like that Yahoo tells the visitor how long the news article reading will take, i.e., a 2-minute read. The website has a “Trending Now” section, but honestly, it does not pop out to me as the first thing I want to see. To find Today’s News, I must click on the three lines at the top right corner, but by then, nothing stood out to me or caught my eye to continue wanting to navigate the website
further. I would improve the website by making a Top Story section that is clear and pops out to the reader and probably cutting out so many ads, which is also making the load time longer. On the contrary, news.google.com has a better and more inviting layout, which is why I believe this website is good. When I go onto the website, I see the date at the top left corner and the current weather for my area. Which immediately is inviting to the reader. There is a section right below with Top Stories. As I Scroll down the page, there is a “For you” section with recommended articles based on my interests (which I'm sure is collected through cookies and all my logins). Overall, Google looks cleaner and more clutter-free to me while not overwhelming. References Bono, M. J., Leslie, S. W., & Reygaert, W. C. (2023, November 13).
