1. Discuss the role of preventative medicine in health care. The role of preventative medicine in health care is very important because it keeps health care costs down and improves the quality of life. Companies have reported that most health care expenditures are directly connected to their employee's lifestyle. Changing this lifestyle will prevent more than half of the early deaths seen by up to 70%, which is why many employers now offer some form of wellness programs to their employees. The emphasis on prevention rather than medical intervention is the key to a healthy lifestyle and medical delivery system which is why it is so important in health care. 2. Explain the importance of proper body mechanics to both patient and the radiographer. Proper body mechanics are important to both the patient and radiographer because you want to have stability and balance when moving and lifting a patient. You don't want anything to happen to you or the patient when you are doing this, so you want to make sure your center of gravity, base support, positioning, and center of gravity are in the best position possible. By doing this it will decrease the strain on your body and will be better for the patient. Especially when handling a patient that has equipment and attachments on them, you want to ensure that they remain intact and don't get contaminated. You want to maintain the equipment or attachment in the current state that it is in and protect it from any contamination, if such things do occur you want to be able to manage fainting, shock, seizures, bleeding, etc. The radiographer also must be able to make changes to the routine of handling a patient when working with a patient that has different circumstances, such as removing or replacing receptor bags. 3. Discuss possible points of conflict in clinical education and how they may be managed using conflict resolution Possible points of conflict in clinical education consists of mishandled patient interaction, unprofessional interactions, or mishandled complaints, these points of conflict can result in the loss of patient confidence, increase chance oof lawsuits, and negative reflection on the institution and department. These points of conflict can be managed using conflict resolution by Listening and empathizing to build trust and solution to these problems that they are being presented with. By being effective at listening it will tell others that we respect them and what they have to say, because we are there to help them if we can. It's important to remember that they are not attacking you personally, but they are attacking the situation that they found unsatisfactory. Being empathetic by understanding and accepting the other person’s position without agreeing or disagreeing and realizing that the person you are in a conflict with has the right to their feelings is important. By doing this you are indicating the desire that you respect their position and want to help deal with the emotions they are expressing. You want to diffuse the tension through listening and empathizing with the patient, this will lead you to often finding a mutually agreeable solution. In the occasion where patients won't respond to effective listening and empathy and are instead loud, abusive, or not interested in an agreeable solution,
then you want to seek assistance from a supervisor or another radiographer. Listening and empathizing are key to when you are faced with questions the patient may ask. Being comfortable with questions that can further enhance our professional standing in the eyes of the patient, which will help increase their confidence in us. You want to anticipate this question and have accurate, truthful, and appropriate responses to meet the patients' needs.
