Week 8 Assignment: 1 What is Toastmasters? (2 credits) Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that builds confidence and teaches public speaking skills through a worldwide network of clubs that meet online and in person. The CDS Toastmasters program is designed to help you fine-tune your public speaking, communication, and leadership skills through regular practice. 2 What are CASE, CASE tools, and a CASE environment? (6 credits) CASE (Computer-Aided Software Engineering) is the use of computer-based support in the software development process; a CASE tool is a computer-based product aimed at supporting one or more software engineering activities within a software development process; a CASE environment is a collection of CASE tools and other components together with an integration approach that supports most or all of the interactions that occur among the environment components, and between the users of the environment and the environment itself. 3 What are forward and reverse engineering tools? How are forward and reverse engineering tools used? (8 credits) Forward and reverse engineering tools are methods employed in software development. Forward engineering involves creating a software system from scratch, while reverse engineering involves analyzing an existing system to understand its structure and functionality. Forward engineering tools are used in the initial phase of software development. They assist in translating design documentation into actual software, facilitating the creation of a new system based on predefined specifications. These tools streamline the coding process, helping developers build software components efficiently. Reverse engineering tools, on the other hand, are employed to understand and analyze an existing software system. They work by examining the source code, binaries, or even the runtime behavior of a program. Reverse engineering tools are beneficial when documentation is lacking, enabling developers to comprehend the inner workings of a system. This process aids in maintenance, updating, or integrating new features into legacy software. 4 What is the payback period? (2 credits) Refers to the amount of time needed for an investment project to earn enough profit to repay the initial cost of the investment. Payback period analysis is a method used to determine the relative time value of a project. It measures the time that a project will take to return its initial investment. The total time taken by the project to return the initial investment made for the project is called the payback period.
If the payback period is short, the project will start receiving profits earlier, which will attract more investment in the project. Furthermore, payback period analysis helps in calculating and managing the risk. Hence, it is an essential factor for decision-making 5 What is a web browser?
