MECH 5750 Assignment week 10 1 /3 MECH 5750 DoE Week 10 Assignment – Two Problems: 7.1 (L8) page 1 and 7.2 (Foldover) page 2 7.1 (Problem 3.3). You solved this problem in week 5 using hand calculations. Now solve it using Minitab. A sample solution for a similar L8 is shown in the Lecture notes for week 10. Put in your name in the title of the Minitab experiments to verify you performed the analysis by yourself. The sample solution is showing 4 scenarios of the analysis, including ANOVA (all 4 interactions as the error), General Linear Model (with only the single 3 way interaction as the error), Significant Factors Only Model (4 non significant factors as the error) and a full model with the error from 4 replication of the center point. Please provide for the hand calculations to explain the Minitab outputs for 3.3 as was shown in the notes. See the power point presentation for L8 single repetition. You can load a free 30 day trial of Minitab using http://www.minitab.com/en-US/products/minitab/free-trial.aspx . Make sure to use your uml.edu address Brand Ratio Batch Interactions Yield Test Popcorn of Oil Size Popcorn Number (1) (2) (3) (12) (13) (23) (123) Y Y 2 1 - - - + + + - 10 100 2 + - - - - + + 13 269 3 - + - - + - + 18 324 4 + + - + - - - 15 225 5 - - + + - - + 16 256 6 + - + - + - - 10 100 7 - + + - - + - 6 36 8 + + + + + + + 8 64 Please perform the following Calculations suing Minitab as shown in the example in week 10 lecture notes. a ANOVA Analysis: Result versus Brand, Ratio, Batch, and the error from the 4 interactions, using Minitab General Manova analysis in the Stat ANOVA . b General Linear Model: Result versus Brand, Ratio, Batch, 12, 13, 23, and the error from the three way interactions (123) using the GLM ( General Linear Model ) Model. c Final model based after pooling of the non-significant factors, using the DoE module in Minitab. d Seven (7) Factor model with variability from repeating Center Point 4 times, using the DoE module in Minitab . You perform this operation by using the center point with 4 receptions in the DoE design part. For problem 3.5, if the center point was replicated four times with values of 11, 12, 13, 14. e Use the replication of some points to create the error. You fool the Minitab by creating the additional experiments manually below the eight experiments as follows (please sue the excel sheet provided in week 10 folder for Minitab: This is Assignment problem 3.6) Brand Ratio Batch Interactions Yield Test Popcorn of Oil Size Replication Number (1) (2) (3) (12) (13) (23) (123) 1 2 3 1 - - - + + + - 10 2 + - - - - + + 13 12 11 3 - + - - + - + 18 4 + + - + - - - 15 5 - - + + - - + 16 6 + - + - + - - 10 11 10 7 - + + - - + - 6 8 + + + + + + + 8
MECH 5750 Assignment week 10 2 /3 7.2. Repeat Hill Climb solution (week 9 foldover) using Minitab. Use the Minitab output in Lecture Notes as a guide. Please use maximum two way interactions in your analysis . The goal is to show the first L8 and determine that one factor which is the most significant, fold it into a second L8 and then analyze the L16 from both. I am looking for the most significant factor (6/F/D) to have no confounding. Use only two levels of interaction. Please put your name in the Minitab experiment. You do not need to show ANOVA since there is no repetition. Please have your name in your Minitab answer sheet. A saturated L8 experiment was conducted on time to climb a hill on a bicycle. The factors were Handlebars (up or down) = column 1 Dynamo (on or Off) = column 2 Rider had Breakfast (yes or no) = column 3 Seat (up or down) = column 4 Rider wore raincoat (yes or no) = column 5 Gear setting (low or medium) = column 6 Tires (hard or soft) = column 7 Factor 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Time to Climb Hill trial # 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 69 2 1 1 1 2 2 2 2 52 3 1 2 2 1 1 2 2 60 4 1 2 2 2 2 1 1 83 5 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 71 6 2 1 2 2 1 2 1 50 7 2 2 1 1 2 2 1 59 8 2 2 1 2 1 1 2 88 a. Determine the climb average for this set of 8 experiments, and determine each factor contribution, indicate the 2 way confounding of each factor 2. A second L8 was made to remove aliasing from column 6 (gear low or medium by complementing column 6 in the second 8 experiments Factor 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Time to climb trial # 9 1 1 1 1 1 2 1 47 10 1 1 1 2 2 1 2 74 11 1 2 2 1 1 1 2 84 12 1 2 2 2 2 2 1 62 13 2 1 2 1 2 2 2 53 14 2 1 2 2 1 1 1 78 15 2 2 1 1 2 1 1 87 16 2 2 1 2 1 2 2 60 Determine the climb average for this second set of 8 experiments, and determine each factor contribution indicate the 2 way confounding of each factor 3. For the set of 16 experiments, determine each factor contribution, indicate the 2 way confounding of each factor, and determine all interaction with the Gear settings (column 6) Required work. Please solve this problem using MINITAB 1. Part 1 in Minitab using data for the first L8 normal, show the aliasing, Pareto for the factors for significance and the coefficients. 2. Part 2. Repeat Part 1 in Minitab by choosing L8 in Minitab and using the second L8 with column 6 reversed (do that by hand in the numbers, reversing -1 to 1 and visa versa), show the aliasing, Pareto for the factors for significance and the coefficients. 3. Separate factor 6 and its interactions by adding the coefficients for the factors and subtracting them for the factor 6 interaction
