Unit 5 R & E Module 14
1.
In this case, the students in the eighth grade appear to be extrinsically motivated due to most of the students being uninterested in the activities assigned by the teacher. They also
seem to have some trouble when it comes to solving the answers themselves and only complete the work that they are assigned due to the teacher offering an award for the team that completes it first. This is completely expected with students of this age due to them not finding excitement in learning new things and instead needing something outside of new knowledge to keep them engaged in the classroom. 2.
I believe that the awards that are given to the students are not working to enhance the student's intrinsic motivation. This is due to the students who do not receive the award might be led to believe that it is based on their inability rather than them simply not being
as fast as another student. This concept can be seen when Jesse comments that Aaron will
always get an A and doesn't even try. 3.
The feedback that is given to Jeremy by Mrs. Pantera is instructional and is considered effective since she is pointing out what specific part of the problem is the part in which Jeremy is in trouble. This can help with Jeremy’s motivation because he understands that he is mainly correct and then he can understand how to fix his mistakes in the future.

4.
In this case, Mr. Pantera gives effective praise by comparing the work that Jesse has done
prior in math to prove that she can do well when she applies herself fully. If he does discuss with her later, he should sit down with the papers she completed and show her what she did correctly, as well as maybe explain that her wrong ones were due to small accidents instead of simply not knowing the answer. This would hopefully encourage her to work harder on her work and concentrate on all parts so she doesn't make simple mistakes. 5.
The first prize will be given out to the group that finishes the work before the others and therefore will be receiving a performance contingent reward. This is the same kind of reward that the whole class will receive if they finish the work before the end of the day. This can enhance the student's intrinsic motivation by allowing the student to work in teams, which helps with not all the work being relied on but the group as a whole. This also allows for the students who are bad at math to get assistance from their classmates who seem to excel in the subject. 6.
Mr. Pantera can use a variety of fun-filled activities that are related to the subject at hand which would allow for the students to use different techniques which are the most appealing to them. This will allow the students to find the best technique for them while also allowing them to learn how to best answer the problems on things such as tests and quizzes.
module 15 1.
Expectancy is the action that is expected in order to achieve the goal at hand. The value on the other hand is the value that comes from the wanted result. The expectancy of Aaron is to get the correct answers on the math assignment and the value was the pride of
3
completing the work correctly. Jeremy goes through utility value while Rachel goes through attainment value when they are working on the math assignments. 2.
Jesse would be the student who is the hardest to motivate due to her lack of confidence in
her skills and therefore might need extra guidance and help from her teacher. On the other
hand, Rachel is easy to motivate due to her drive to understand math. 3.
Mr. Pantera views the math scores to be the outcomes as an entity view of ability and might make Aaron's performance in math as someone who doesn’t practice most likely to
ha lack confidence in his review skills. 4.
Jesse is a student who practices math constantly but still has a hard time when it comes to
different assignments. During this case study she is seen comparing herself to Aaron. This
comparison is considered a gender type comparison which can lead to anxiety and other issues. 5.
Mr. Pantera comments to Jesse about how she needs to have more confidence in herself while also trying to help reassure her. This however most likely will backfire due to these comments being perplexing and somewhat embarrassing. He should have instead tried and figure out why she thinks she is messing up the math
6.
Jesse’s anxiety begins to affect her performance when she begins to erase all of her answers and is holding back tears. While Mr. Patera tries to motivate Jesse by boosting her confidence, he can also recommend regular practice. Module 16
1.
Jesse does not feel self-efficient while she is working on the math review due to her assumption that she isn't smart enough to complete the work. She does not believe that

she requires the knowledge and skills to complete the work in front of her and therefore she also is experiencing anxiety.
2.
Mr. Pantera does infact possess a high teaching efficacy, which can be seen multiple times within the case study. The first evidence of Mr. Pantera’s teaching efficacy is his management of the classroom, this can be seen when he groups his students while also fighting their boredom by making the learning into something they can compete. Mr. Pantera's efficacy is also seen by him giving feedback to his students about their work and what parts they can work a little harder on.
3.
Mr. Pantera can promote positive self-efficacy by implementing things such as the classroom behavior being well managed, helping the students to set achievable and appropriate goals, and focusing on skills rather than grades. 4.
Once again Jesse is the hardest student to motivate due to her lack of self-confidence and doubt in her abilities. She shows this when she is holding back tears and erasing all her answers, she then explains that she isn't good at math when she is asked about why she was erasing her answers. Rachel is once again the easiest student to motivate because unlike Jesse she does have confidence in her skills and this shows while she is taking her time on the questions to truly understand what to do instead of speeding through to simply win the prize. 5.
Mr. Pantera can do many things to instill a feeling of autonomy in his students when it comes to state testing. Making the review in math more enjoyable allows the students to make their own decisions in solving the problems in front of them. He can also sit the students down individually so that he can answer any questions they have that they might
5
be too scared to ask in front of the class, while also being able to provide advice on the things they have missed.
