Dq1 Do you believe it is necessary for the classroom teacher to be directly involved in all aspects of math instruction? Explain. Teachers should be directly involved in all aspects of math instructions. As educators, we are there to teach children and provide the guidance necessary for them to master skills. Through careful planning, we can develop lessons that are engaging and effective. This will make math instruction effective for our students. We must ensure that we introduce students to academic language before teaching the lesson so students can adequately understand the concepts. While actively teaching the lesson, we should check for understanding before moving forward. With direct involvement, it would be easier for teachers to realize when students need help and for students to understand concepts (Protheroe, 2007). One way is to use informal assessments such as "thumbs up / down" and "turn and talk." When students complete their tasks, we must be involved as this is an opportunity to scaffold, leading to student success. Finally, Having "exit tickets" is an excellent way to check for students' understanding. Reference Protheroe, N. (Sept 2007). What Does Good Math Instruction Look Like? Principal. How can you adapt your planning after collaboration? I am an advocate for teachers collaborating. Teaches will be more effective when they can share the responsibility of plans, and this will allow for them to be better prepared to implement lessons. Collaboration sets the base for teachers to create a community and fostering a positive and supportive environment. Additionally, when the same grade level teachers collaborate they can create consistency on what students are learning ensuring that they have been exposed to the same concepts creating academic uniformity. Also, teachers who collaborate can get better centers as the load is divided. When teachers collaborate, they can share ideas and discuss their challenges leading them to reflect on their methods (School of Education, 2023). Through self- reflection they can improve their practice, methods, and delivery. It is inevitable when teachers share lessons that some aspects need to be modified. As educators, we must examine and reflect when we must change things to achieve our goal which is to have our students understand
concepts. This varies from student to student so expecting that to remain the same from class to class is unrealistic. Reference School of Education. (May 2023).
