ONLINE FIELD TRIP Website Name Description Figure This! This is a family oriented math website. What is so interesting about this site, is that it was designed for parents to gain new ideas to incorporate math in their everyday life. This is espe- cially helpful for children that struggle in math and need more help in areas. I also feel if you make math fun and have students understand that understanding concepts in math is useful, chil- dren would want to listen. This site allows Parents/Guardians to use these ideas expressed on the site and show their children the concepts of math. National Council of Teach- ers of Mathematics (COMAP) This site is a nonprofit organization that aims to help all ages of children understand and lean math. The organization is titled: The Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications. What makes this organization unique is that they create curriculums for teachers and parents to follow and teach to their students/ children. They gain their knowledge through research based practices to insure their methods are effective for student growth. This organization does require a fee, which is the down side; but I see it as, most people pay for math tutors, you will have one at your disposal anytime you need assistance. I would also like to add that this subscription which allows for full ac- cess also comes with resources, textbooks and materials. If the child/student curriculum needs materials this site will provide it. PBS Teacher Source: Article Archive-Assessment During my search I was happy to have come across PBS. PBS kids was a channel I loved to watch in the morning as a child. PBS is a website that provides kids and parents with a variety of cool educational content. This site also allows teachers to place their ideas to parents on ways to teach kids at home. How can parents bring the classroom dynamic into their homes and con- tinue learning. Teachers provide parents with different ways to teach their children no matter their grade level and incorporates lesson plans as well for parents to go by. It also expresses differ- ent ways to engage students when in the classroom setting for teacher knowledge. This site is a fun and creative resource that I one day want to use with my children.
ONLINE FIELD TRIP Cool Math Games This website I enjoyed exploring all of what they offer because. Their site looks so child friendly and almost like a video game site. If I was a child I would have liked to play on this site. There are a variety of math games to play that cover many areas of math concepts from number mini golf, algebra, learning num- bers and much more. It kind of reminds me of pac man or nin- tendo games. This website allows for children to play games which is what they love to do after school but the difference is that they would be learning as well. They help develop skills sets. They introduce it in a fun and interactive way engaging stu- dents to enhance their strategy in which you can manipulate numbers. In order to gain full access to all that the site has to of- fer, you would need a subscription. That does not mean that you can’t enjoy some things that you don't need a subscription for. Maze Game The Maze Game is a site that is geared towards children that are older so the concepts in the area of mathematics are more ad- vanced. In order for children to make sense of this site and use it to help them, they must have basic prior knowledge in mathe- matics. Learning math by using a maze is a creative and engag- ing way for students to learn how graphing concepts work. This site helps students locate coordinates on a graph. Slope Slider Slope Slider is another site that is geared towards older children. The concepts in the area of mathematics are more advanced. This site helps students whom are struggling with graphing, practice their skills using a number line. I love that this site sup- plies students with graphing tools they would need in order to learn slopes on a line. Math Playground Math Playground is a site that has an interesting concept. The idea is it allows students to play with a friend. Designing this idea, helps students strengthen their social skills with a peer while learning whole number addition and integer multiplica- tion. Another great idea about this site is that it gets harder and harder as you pass levels. It does a good job of challenging stu- dents abilities. This site has tabs that students and teachers can manipulate. The learner can click on a tab to have the directions explained to him or clues to help him/her solve the problem. Teacher can manipulate the games to fit the students individual needs. It is a bonus to have teachers modify games to fit that stu- dents specific needs in which he might be struggling in and may need more help in that specific area of math. The Place value Game The Place value Game is just that, a game that is designed to

ONLINE FIELD TRIP help students practice place values. The idea is to have students pick a number with the numbers provided on basically any de- vice; laptop, tablet or mobile device the student is using and they could play anywhere at anytime. Top 5 Links There were several links that I found interesting to use when teaching in the classroom. I enjoy reading websites that show unique and creative ways to be more engaging with your stu- dents, rather than only in the traditional sense of the teacher instructing what needs to be learned. The top 5 links that I found useful were the sites that focused on interactive approaches to learn- ing and games for the students to learn and improve their individual needs within the area of math. The first site I discovered was “Figure This!”. I love that this is a family oriented math website. What is so interesting about this site, is that it was designed for parents to gain new ideas to incorporate math in their everyday life. It encourages families to interact with their chil- dren. This is especially helpful for children that struggle in math and need more help in areas. I also feel if you make math fun and have students understand that understanding concepts in math is useful, children would want to listen. This site allows Parents/Guardians to use these ideas ex- pressed on the site and show their children the concepts of math. In the area of math it may be hard for some parents to even know where to begin with helping their children comprehend math concepts, especially new concepts in math. Another thing to think about, there are children whom are non-complaint and will not want to work on math concepts after school is finished. This website alters this perception for both parents and students. It allows for parents to engage
ONLINE FIELD TRIP with their children in different ways in order to get their child/children wanting to work on math. It gives parents different interactive ideas on how to introduce math to them and draw them in. Cool Math Games is a site that is really inviting for children. It does a great job of sup- plying various resources for students to be focused in the area of math while still learning. looks so child friendly and almost like a video game site. The Place Value Game is a fun and engaging site that allows early learners to use and it is very simple to search around the site. The site shows that it was designed for early learners be- cause of the colorful, yet appealing and interactive approach to learning math. This site allows students to pick a number with the numbers provided on basically any device; laptop, tablet or mobile device the student is using and they could play anywhere at anytime. In searching these available sites, I came to realize that there are so many helpful tools, resources and materials that students can use to better their understanding of math principals and concepts. A source more parents and students should be made aware of. Selecting my top five sites was hard to do because each site, served a specific purpose. The websites discussed above had one thing in common and that was to better students understand of math materials and con- cepts, but shifting math from transitional learning methods; to fun and interactive games and ac- tivities to do with a peer, by yourself or with your family.
