James Madison University
Budget information Introduction
James Madison University (JMU) was founded in 1908. JMU was originally named the State Teachers College at Harrisonburg. Then, in 1938 the university got the name of Madison College. In 1977 it got the name of James Madison University. JMU “has offered master’s degrees since 1954 and Ph.D.s since 1983” (JMU Centennial Celebration ~ JMU Historical Timeline, n.d.). This research institution prides itself on expanding those opportunities for students and professors.
Results
The following data is collected from the past 3 school years. It represents the enrollment trends, student borrowing, and instruction and research core expenses. The data was collected from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS).
Discussion
“The total FY 2020 resource budget to support University operations is over $619M” (EDUCATIONAL & GENERAL PROGRAMS, n.d.). Compared to the other institutions, JMU seems to stay steady and consistent with similar schools. JMU has also managed to stay relatively consistent through the past three years regarding borrowing from students. When it comes to core expenses, JMU has been consistent with spending per full-time enrolled (FTE) student. We learn from the bible that “but the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (John 14:26, English Standard Version). I feel this is relevant to JMU and its practices because they have done well allocating resources and sticking to their budgets. I think it has been efficient the last 3 years and even before then. I think they will continue to stay on pace and will continue to teach the next incoming budget professionals.
