1008GBS Business Decision Making T1 2023 ASSESSMENT 2 - ASSIGNMENT 1 STUDENT NAME Seisia Dougharty STUDENT ID s5340527 WORKSHOP DAY Tuesday WORKSHOP TIME 2:00-4:00pm QUESTIONS Question 1 (0.5+1.5+3+1+0.5+5+3.5 marks) (a) Data type: Categorical data has been collected for various passenger vehicle brands. (b) Total sales 2,248,461.00 2018 851,321 2020 667,390 2022 729,750 Comment: While identifying the categorical data of total sales of the top 10 passenger vehicle brands in 2018, 2020 and 2022, it is clear that there was a decrease in market sales from 2018 to 2020. However, in 2022 this spiked back up due to 2020’s complication cutback. (c) Justification for the choice of chart: This easy-to-read bar chart below indicates the amount of car sales made over a spread of time (2018, 2020, 2022). Bar charts are visually pleasing making it easier to understand the trends, especially for larger quantities of data like the qualitative variables below. Not only this but gives you the actual sales quantity for more graphical interpretation and accuracy. Chart: MODEL 1 BAR GRAPH Toyota Mazda Hyundai Mi tsub ishi Ford Kia Nissan Volk swagen Honda Subaru 0.00 50,000.00 100,000.00 150,000.00 200,000.00 250,000.00 Top 10 best brands of passenger vehicles in 2018 Vehicle brand Total sales Comment 1
1008GBS Business Decision Making T1 2023 on market leaders: The clear market leaders in 2018 are Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Ford. The chosen graph demonstrates that overall, Toyota is displayed increasingly higher with over 200,000 sales in that year being the top vehicle brand with Honda and Subaru no higher than 25% of Toyota's total sales, as well as Subaru being displayed as the lowest, with significantly 167,046 fewer sales than Toyota. Furthermore, the top 5 least selling car brands are relatively close in their sales. (d) Advice: After listing the top 5 market leaders, advice for Brian based on the 2018 market shares, would be to focus predominantly on Toyota still, as the brand was increasingly higher than the others, which is more likely to create more sales in the future if the trend is consistent. In terms of the top 5, Brian needs to depict why there was such a drop in his earlier manufacture of Nissan and what factors could have occurred for Nissan to not sell as well as in the year 2000. As well as prioritising Mazda and Hyundai into the picture as Holden comes to a closure in the production. (e) Answer: This significant drop in 2020 was due to the covid pandemic which played a huge factor that contributed to the drastic change in drop, which caused quarantine issues which caused consumer delays (Mccubbing, 2023). Due to the 2020 pandemic, the sales data for that chosen year isn't substantially effective in analysing the total vehicle sales, therefore would not be appropriate to make predictions purely based on that data. Covid impacted companies tremendously as car dealers as well as nearly three-quarters of Australian businesses had reduced cash flow due to the pandemic conditions (Gray, 2020). (f) Justification for the choice of chart: Model 2 shows the outlier period of 2020, while still focusing on the 2018 and 2022 periods. Each year is represented by a different colour bar and length, indicating the number of vehicles sold in total for that year. Chart: MODEL 2 BAR GRAPH (with outlier) Toyota Maz da Hyundai Mi tsub ishi Ford Kia Nissan Volk swagen Honda Subaru 0.00 50,000.00 100,000.00 150,000.00 200,000.00 250,000.00 Top 10 best selling new passenger vehicles sales by brand 2018 2020 2022 Total sales Comment on the chart: In 2020, 70% of the vehicles dropped significantly in sales from the previous year, however, increased in 2022. As the total market sale decreased by 183,931 from 2018 to 2020, the model 1 and 2 diagram show Toyota as a clear outlier and market leader staying relatively consistent throughout the period, while keeping the highest sales throughout.  2
1008GBS Business Decision Making T1 2023 Comment on change in market share between 2018 and 2022: The change in market share between 2018 compared to 2022 shows that all brands decreased slightly. Whereas Nissan and Honda drastically dropped after the pandemic, while Kia and Toyota rose in total sales. List the top 5 brands in 2018 and 2022 and discuss advice to Brian (in order) 2018: Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Ford 2022: Toyota, Mazda, Kia, Mitsubishi, Hyundai Toyota consistently grows and Kia had the greatest increase after covid. (g) Justification for the choice of chart:   Nissan, Volkswagen, and Honda declined by the year, representing the vehicle brands becoming less popular, as other companies increase in strong demand. There should be a change in what he sells due to this comparison, as well as the top 5 brands chosen above as the best option. Chart: MODEL 3 BAR GRAPH (without outlier year) Toyota Mazda Hyundai Mi tsubishi Ford Kia Nissan Volkswagen Honda Subaru 0.00 50,000.00 100,000.00 150,000.00 200,000.00 250,000.00 Top 10 best brands of passenger vehicles in 2018-2022 2018 2022 Total sales Comment on the chart: 2020 compared to 2018 shows that covid did impact the quantity of sales, however helped to show what brands are the most reliable for uncertain circumstances. Model 3 represents the data without the outlier of the year 2020 where the data was not reliable, showing a more clear trendline of the years that count. 3

1008GBS Business Decision Making T1 2023 Question 2 (3+8+4 marks) (a) Justification for the choice of chart: The chart sample shows the years and temp anomalies with their peak points, second chart shown is easier to read. Chart: Model 1 (both same chart, second easier to read) 4
1008GBS Business Decision Making T1 2023 Comment on the trend: The linear trend line shows an average increase in temperature as the years exceed. Although this data shows some decline spikes in the data it clear that its continuing to shoot in temperature increase. (b) There is global warming if the average temperature anomalies over a period ( ) is positive. [Hint: Calculate the sample mean and sample standard deviation of the monthly temperature anomalies for the sample period 1958-2016 and test the hypothesis that the population mean temperature anomaly ( ) is positive ( > 0?)]. Hypothesis testing In the spaces below, complete each step of the Six-Step Process of Hypothesis Testing Include the necessary information for each step Step 1 (set up null and alternative hypotheses) Null hypotheses (Ho): μ = 0 Alternative hypotheses (Ha): μ > 0 Step 2 (determine test statistic and formula) Formula 2: test on numerical data when standard deviation ( σ ) is unknown. t = Χ μ 0 s / n Step 3 (specify the alpha) The significance is provide as 5% α = 0.05 5
1008GBS Business Decision Making T1 2023 Step 4 (define decision rule) Decision rule for a right-tail test: Reject Ho if t-test value is > t critical value (otherwise do not reject Null (Ho) Step 5 (Calculate the value of the test statistic or p-value) Choose the correct worksheet in the Test Statistics.xlsx workbook and enter the required entries in the grey shaded cells Sample mean = 0.411 Sample standard deviation = 0.513677 Sample size = 699 T-test of a mean Sample mean (Xbar) 0.411 T stat 21.14 Sample standard deviation (s) 0.513677 P(T<=t) one-tail 0.0000 Sample size (n) 699 t Critical one-tail 1.6470 Hypothesized mean ( μ ) 0 P(T<=t) two-tail 0.0000 Alpha ( α ) 0.05 T Critical two-tail 1.9634 Step 6 (Compare the values from the output using the Decision rule and reject or do not reject the alternative hypothesis. State your conclusion which should answer the research question) Reject Ho since: 21.12> 1.6470 (c) Justification for the choice of chart: Scatterplots are visually easy to read to determine the relationship between the two variables (CO2 levels) and (temperature anomalies). As well as the different coloured trend line to predict the trend movement. Chart: include the trend line and the Model 2 6

1008GBS Business Decision Making T1 2023 coefficient of determinatio n R 2 on the chart Comment on the chart: The blue indicates the effect CO2 has on temperature, showing that higher levels of Carbon dioxide increase global warming, as it continues to intensify. Although the correlation coefficient is moderate it still dictates the impact it has on the environment which ultimately causes climate change. Interpret the slope coefficient of the trend line and comment on the fitness of the model. The R 2 value of 0.6123 is shown as a moderately good fit model, as it indicates a calculation of 61.23%. The slope is increasing by approximately 0.0156 for every one-unit increase which is clear through the trendline. 7
