Stansbury 1 Grant Stansbury LHRD 3723 Feb 23 2023 1. Using ideas from the chapter, describe Dan’s and Asher’s styles of leadership. Dan is unquestionably a task-oriented leader because he places a greater emphasis on reaching the goal and having the team finish the tasks assigned to them. Asher, on the other hand, comes across as being more relationship-focused because he wants the workers to feel at ease with their jobs and the leadership so that they can perform to the best of their abilities. 2. How will Asher’s employees, who are used to being able to manage themselves in their own way, respond to Dan’s task-oriented style? Asher's subordinates are more likely to experience his relationship-focused style of leadership. As a result, rather than engaging in direct interference, their working style may involve affiliation from the leadership. If they must report to Dan in this circumstance, they might feel that their authority to deal with an abnormal situation is severely limited and their work scope has become very constrained. This will be completely at odds with their sense of ownership at work, which they have developed while working with Asher. As a result, the level of overall service may decline, and they may continue to be unsatisfied and unmotivated. Dan might not put up with such subpar work and inefficiency, which would ruin these employees' careers. 3. How will Dan’s employees, who are used to being given clear direction and procedures, respond to Asher’s more relationship-oriented style? In contrast, if Dan's employees start answering to Asher, they will run into difficulties handling even minor irregularities at work. Due to their lack of confidence in handling abnormalities, they will experience heat
Stansbury 2 in the early days. However, it is important to note that Asher is a manager who believes in guiding rather than controlling his staff members and who also helps when needed. As a result, we can assume that these workers will eventually start to perform well because of Asher's leadership. 4. If you were an employee at Co-Ed Cleaners, would you want Mark to let Dan or Asher go? Explain your choice. If given the option, I might choose to keep Asher over Dan. As we've seen in the first two responses, it might be very challenging for the workers to recover from their initial problems if we fire Asher. Dan's task-oriented expectations and Dan's underperformance will create a vicious cycle that might actually be harmful to the expansion of the business. We should also keep in mind that the firm is under pressure from the competition. This will be a huge loss for the company as it will have to deploy managers everywhere to make these operational decisions if the people working down the line are unable to make decisions for minor abnormalities. The managers should focus more on making strategic decisions for the company's future than on working on minor operational issues on a daily basis. Relationship-focused management will free up the managers to engage in strategic planning activities by ensuring that those below them can make sound decisions in day-to-day operations.
