Starting A Team Starlynn LaBeaux MGT3102 March 24, 2024
Starting A Team Firstly, it is important to establish a clear understanding of a team. According to (Northouse, 2019), a team is a collection of two or more individuals who work together harmoniously towards a common goal, taking ownership and accountability for their actions. Throughout my time at Menlo Worldwide Logistics, I had the privilege of being involved in various teams such as the Voices and Values Team (VVT Committee), the Lean Committee, and the Safety Committee. e What is the purpose of the team? Who are the members of your team with whom you will interact during this course? Our location received a notably low rating in terms of staff morale. The Voices and Values Team (VVT Committee) was established to boost staff morale. The topic of employee morale was discussed during a routine meeting attended by a group of volunteers from different departments. ¢ Do you already interact with these people? If so, do you typically act in a leadership role with these individuals or a non-leadership role? What role are you taking in this assignment? We were all part of the same organization, suggesting that we had a certain level of familiarity or acquaintance with each other. During that time, I took on the responsibility of being the main supervisor for the Material Review Board (MRB) Department. As a result, I have engaged in discussions with many individuals working in various fields. With the formation of
the VVT Committee, I was given the responsibility of keeping track of the meeting minutes and documenting the time. e What will your role be in this group? What characteristics of effective leaders do you hope to practice? Since leadership is about influencing change toward a common goal, what change will you try to influence? Following my election, I was chosen to take on the position of Vice President of the committee approximately one year later. I was brimming with enthusiasm and eager to motivate others to join me in my passion for the committee and the goals we were working towards. Despite encountering various obstacles, we were able to effectively coordinate our first-ever annual family day. The company chose to retract its agreement to cover half of the event expenses, despite initially agreeing to do so (Northouse, 2019). We expected that organizing a family day event at our premises, accommodating a workforce of over 300 individuals across three shifts would incur financial costs. We required funds for both the venue and the provision of food, beverages, and snacks. Despite considering giving up on the project, both the President of the VVT committee and I remained resolute in our decision not to do so. The committee put forward the suggestion of gathering the funds. By utilizing various fundraising methods such as bake sales, pie in the face, and ticket raffles, we were able to effectively accomplish our goal. While creating fliers and announcements for different events, the team felt a strong sense of excitement for the upcoming festivities. We continued the tradition by organizing our second annual family fun day, and then began fundraising for our first annual holiday party. It was a notable accomplishment (Northouse, 2019). Explore the seven habits that are essential for the success of a leader.
