2 Choosing a career can easily be one of the most significant decisions in anyone’s life. For many, their career path will be with them for their entire life; therefore, how does one choose a career that will benefit them? To many, the answer to that question is personality and career assessments. As I delved into various career assessments, including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), ONET Interest Profiler, and ONET OnLine Soft Skills Custom List, along with MyPlan's Work Values Clusters, I gained valuable insights into my personality, interests, values, and skills. These assessments collectively provide a comprehensive view of my potential career preferences, shedding light on strengths and growth areas. According to the MBTI, I fall under the "Commander" category, characterized by the ENTJ-A personality type. The results indicate I am extroverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging. This classification resonates with my inclination toward leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making. Surprisingly, the assessment revealed that I tend to be assertive, a trait I was aware of but hadn't fully appreciated until now. The O*NET Interest Profiler further supplements my self-awareness by highlighting my interests in realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, and conventional areas. I was surprised by the balanced distribution across these categories, emphasizing my diverse interests. This resonates with my belief in the importance of a multifaceted career that allows creativity, social interaction, and logical problem-solving. The Soft Skills Custom List highlights vital skills such as coordination, negotiation, persuasion, social perceptiveness, active learning, and critical thinking. These skills align with my inclination towards leadership and strategic thinking, further reinforcing the patterns identified by the MBTI. Examining MyPlan's Work Values Clusters, I found that achievement, recognition, and independence are my top three values. While this resonates with my desire for personal and professional success, it also points out a need for independence in my work environment. This is

3 complemented by a moderate emphasis on relationships, indicating the importance of collaboration in my ideal career. Considering these results collectively, a common thread emerges – a preference for roles that demand leadership, strategic thinking, and a mix of creative and analytical problem-solving. Realizing that my interests, personality, values, and skills align in these areas is both affirming and eye-opening. As I contemplate my ideal career, I envision a role that allows me to lead and innovate, promoting a dynamic and collaborative environment. Realistically, a project management or engineering career would provide ample opportunities to exercise my leadership skills, engage in strategic decision-making, and tap into my diverse interests. These results for ideal careers further strengthen my drive to complete my studies at Rutgers University, for I am currently pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Based on the results and personal experience, my career choice is potentially significant as it aligns with the assessment results. However, it's crucial to acknowledge the potential challenges associated with this career path. The emphasis on independence might pose a challenge in highly collaborative environments, and finding a balance between assertiveness and flexibility is essential. Additionally, maintaining relationships and recognizing the value of support, even in independent roles, is an area for improvement. Embracing my strengths, such as leadership and strategic thinking, will undoubtedly benefit my career choice. I can leverage my coordination and negotiation skills to build effective teams and navigate complex challenges. Active learning and critical thinking will be my allies in adapting to evolving industries and finding innovative solutions. I am committed to honing my social perceptiveness and functional listening skills to address potential limitations. These improvements will enhance my ability to collaborate effectively, fostering positive relationships in both professional and personal spheres.
