What Text Type Do | Use for My Small Group Reading Lesson? Alphabet Book Controlled Decodable Text Readable Leveled Text An alphabet book is a text that contains pictures of objects that begin with the same sound. A decodable text is entirely made up of high frequency words and words that can be sounded out. A controlled decodable text is a decodable text that contains only word structures that have been explicitly taught. Leveled texts are categorized on a continuum of difficulty using many different factors (i.e. theme complexity, sentence complexity, etc.). A readable leveled text is one that a student can read mostly without teacher support with ~ 90 - 94% accuracy. It contains a small percentage of words with sounds and structures that may not have been explicitly taught, but the majority is made up of words that students can read.
