EDU239 LESSON 3 ASSIGNMENT 1. How does principle one of the AZ LDA apply to the Newcomer Model? The Newcomer Model is all about making sure that the EL student is provided with resources and support, so the student has equal opportunities to participate in the school system. Principle one of the AZ LDA applies to the Newcomer Model because it ensures that EL students are given the opportunity to showcase their strengths and invite them to show their culturally and linguistic knowledge with the school. Some examples include aking sure to leverage home languages and cultures, making sure student’s culture are respected in a safe environment and support the unique development of the student. 2. How does principle two of the AZ LDA apply to the 50-50 Dual Language Immersion? Principle two applies to the 50-50 Dual Language Immersion because it indicates that educators are responsible for creating lessons and an environment that provides quality education to EL students. This education model is when literacy and content is taught in both languages that the student knows and the one they are learning. The 50-50 Dual Language Immersion is constructed of requirements for EL students, so they are integrated and welcomed into the school. Some examples are using the English Language Proficiency Standards, immerse students in language rich environment and provide opportunities for students to work together. 3. How does principle three of the AZ LDA apply to the Two Hour Model? Principle three is designed to make sure that EL students are being provided with feedback and opportunities to understand their progress as they are learning English. This applies to the Two hour Model because it consists of educational requirements that teachers need to meet with EL students so they can eventually be fluent. These requirements are to help accelerate the EL student’s learning process and language fluency. Some examples of this principle include create opportunities for students to reflect on their learning and providing grade-level appropriate instruction and materials.
4. How does principle four of the AZ LDA apply to the Pull-Out Model? Principle four looks at the progress of language proficiency and makes sure that all districts and schools have proper standards, tools and assessments for tracking the EL student’s progress. This applies to the Pull-out Model because it ensures that schools have access to data that can help track the EL student’s progress and helps ensure their growth in language development. This also makes sure that EL students are not being lost or forgotten as they navigate learning a new language. Some examples of this principle are to use rubrics and assessment data to give meaningful feedback and to track progress in short bursts such as minute-by-minute and day-by-day measurements.
