ESL – 546 Clinical Field Experience A: Language Focus
Part 1: Interview and Observation
It must be first understood that language form and language function have to work simultaneously together. To do this educator should provide students with opportunities to learn through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This is an important piece because it gives my students a time to practice English language no matter if their native English speakers
or not. Modeling to English language learners it’s important for them to listen to station, providing stems, while also exposing them too many different types of grade level readers there’s allows students to visually learn.
When addressing the important relationship between verbal and written expression. It’s important to engage students within listening activities. This is important because when speaking to a student your voice will need to indicate meaning while also giving nonverbal cues. By using facial expressions throughout lectures and watch the students face to see any reactions an educators can make connections.
In order to support and language needs of English Language Learners a n educator should provide a safe environment to all students, positive interactions, provide interactive reading and writing skills that will ultimately implement literacy development. Strategies used in order to implement support for English Language Learners is starting with vocabulary that would need to be scaffolded at the start of a lesson, speaking slowly however in a normal tone and using technology.
To provide English language learners with Content area instruction that would also meet their grade level expectations, it’s important to establish the subject and language objectives for each lesson before beginning instruction. In order to support their English language development, this allows you to link any content to this English language, learners background experience. This offers an understandable resource for the English language learners to use.. Lessons should be made with visuals, auditory, and hand-on activities for students. Two additional questions that I brought to my mentor are: How would one instruct English language learner students and how would an educator make content accessible for English language learners?
Through my interview and stated that they educate themselves on English language learners back home knowledge that are in their classroom they teach themselves pre-teach vocabulary and support comprehension.
In conclusion is important to incorporate a student’s native language. It is also important to speak slower, but I do write. The children are understanding while also retaining the information being spoken. It’s important to teach language skills throughout the infrequent curriculum throughout the day, and it’s also very important to build relationships with your English language, learner students in order to make connections to them, and show them that you care and understand, and respect the culture.

While completing my observation, and following with discussion, I was able to address the issues that are related to learning the English language, while also addressing the other issues
that it entails to building a structure, they can be implemented into the plan. From observing and speaking with mentor, I learned that it Will take time in order for me to just to all of my students,
but that it is possible to adjust and meet all needs to support. It is important that educators build a
strategy for instructing all students and that utilizes all possible strategies in order to meet the criteria to succeed. After my observation, I was able to have the discussion with my mentor in order to address the questions aligned with the assignment. While receiving this feedback, I thought about
my future practice. The feedback that I received was informational and I felt it will be something
I take with me in my future as an educator and that I will implement the strategies in my classroom.
